Bug #4967
Bug synopsis: Bad RFE's filtered by reliable people.
Reported against: ADOM 1.0.0
Operating system: Windows XP
Submitted on: 2004-02-03, 04:20:00
Submitted by: Philip K (aka dodrudon)
Bug state: in progress
Bug description: Browsing through the open RFE's, I already notice many, many duplicates. Some, such as houses, shops, & online, I know TB would immediately close with a "will not fix" label, because it is a duplicate. To save him (you?) time, why not have reliable persons that have worked with you filter these obvious duplicates out, and pass on only the new ones so you can review them? I know any serious fan would know which ones to pass on and which ones to close. I'd volunteer, but this is my first public appearance in the ADOM world, and no one knows me or trusts me. Yet.
Bug evaluation: No evaluation so far.
Comments (8888): Now that's irony... this suggestion was submitted twice and is itself a duplicate.

-- . (2004-12-12, 10:34:48)
I second that. ADOM is a good enough game that volunteers are willing to help out the creator filter through RFEs that will not be accepted. This includes:

Requests for new item classes(like containers)
Requests for new classes
Requests for new player races
Requests for storyline changes
Requests for complicated skills
Requests for anything requiring coding a new group, rather than adding to an existing group
Requests for blatantly unbalancing things to be added (Such as a spell that makes a river through a stage)

-- Flub (2004-12-14, 23:48:28)
Heehee....

But yeah, TB could use a helping hand. What if everyone was to submit RFE's to another forum, and all the good ones from there would be sent here?

Then again, TB woulnd't see any ideas that he likes more than anyone else...

-- NMBLNG (2004-12-19, 22:18:32)
I just remembered that TB spoke about a voting system... The voting system is just what this RFE is about.

-- Matti Merikari (2004-12-21, 14:50:03)
People, besides TB of course, filtering reports is not a good idea!

-- Matti Merikari (2004-12-26, 14:34:10)
Hmmmm, duplicates, like THIS ONE! lol, if you want a post read don't send 60000000 of them! I agree with Matti Merikari, extra's aren't needed other than to just post and reply. if you don't like an idea, don't attack them or there post, just tell them to search for an rfe before posting, or whatever seems most sensible. I'll bet at one point you were just as in-experienced as them (no harm ment!).

"I'd volunteer"

Just say that you want to delete the RFE's you don't like, istn't that the point?

-- sadfsdsfdfs (2005-01-28, 15:08:06)
Thomas has recently agreed with the idea of trustworthy volunteers helping with the bug database. (There was a post on the newsgroup about it about two weeks ago)

-- Varkoill (2005-02-12, 21:49:11)

-- Note from Thomas Biskup: One or more comments for this report have been banned because they contain HTML code and this website recently has been spammed by idiots trying to swamp the website with advertisements.

Besides They can filter the comments so this area never becoming forum again, or a free sponsor post.

-- Battle bunny (2005-05-28, 12:36:32)
I think the above is an excellent example of where a little filtering may be useful. besides this, there is a search function but how many use it? if everyone did (or even looked at the last few additions to the database) there wouldn't be so many identical requests for houses/fires/proper character saving. of course not all requests for things like houses/fires/other game elements are the same...

Some sort of an "approval board" that would be able to clean the RFEs from multiple submissions (by mistake, as this one), clear out or consolidate the duplicates, and rate all others to distinguish brilliant ideas from blatant nonsenses, would be certailny welcome.

As would be a new round of submitted RFEs. It's been two years since the last batch was made public for comments ;-)

Hey. Failures are finger posts on the road to achievement.
I am from Japan and also now\'m speaking English, tell me whether I wrote the following sentence: \"This can be either an increase in muscle mass, fat deposits, or excess fluids such as water.\"

Thank :o Bradley.

Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies Thomas Biskup recommends: Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies
"This book IMHO is simply marvelous: It explains human history with a broad perspective and explains why certain things happen with logical biological arguments instead of controversial and emotional points. There are reasons (geographical et al.) why american indians were conquered by europeans - but these reasons do not follow some stupid ubermensch theory but extrapolate from climate, geography and similar reasons. If you want to learn why the world developed the way it developed, this is the book to read! For software engineers and game designers this book IMHO is invaluable because it teaches you to think in larger perspectives and to consider how large consequences can result from small triggers. Here you can really begin to understand how worlds come to be. An absolute must-have! "
