Bug #4968
Bug synopsis: Make summoners more interesting in caves
Reported against: ADOM 1.1.1
Operating system: Windows XP
Submitted on: 2004-01-25, 06:56:37
Submitted by: Adam Ruggieri
Bug state: in progress
Bug description: I have been doing a lot of thinking of late about many factors in ADOM, and I've come up with one that I hope will at least be looked at. We all know how necromancers *love* to summon spiders against you, when you encounter them (especially in the open room before dwarftown). It's also common knowledge that spiders and cave fishers do not give a lot of exp. Past upper teen levels, they are just an annoyance, with poison and miniscule rewards for slaughtering them. Perhaps if a PC is above level 20 or 25, there will be more of a type of monster that I call "Corrupted Drakeling". The name can ofcourse be changed but here's the basic jist. You find dwarves and cavemen and non-hostile orcs and trolls in random places. Dark hurthilngs or dark elves (I think). Why not drakelings as well? They can also be randomly generated too, but the main idea was to make the summoner type monsters more threatening to higher level pc's in lower level dundgeons. They can be labled with a light green "S". It can be said about them:
"This creature only vaguely resembles its former self. Perhaps an adventure at one time, it now looms a good seven feet tall, with acid dripping from its claws and fangs like venom. Its diamond eyes shift quickly and its nostrals sniff with urgency, hoping to find its next meal." It can have an acidic attack (much like a poisonous one for spiders) that can work similar to an acid trap for equipment and hp damage. They can still spit a drakeling acid ball at you as well. The idea would be that chaos has corrupted them much like it corrups the PC, but rather then turn it into a mass of writhering chaos, it has warped the Drakelings into these beasts instead. They can attack three times, do aprox. 35 - 50pts damage per attack, have a DV of 20 - 50 and a PV of 0 (The idea being that the drakling hide has become very thick and tough, but they lack any physical armor besides that). a speed of 110 - 120 (Chaos has enchanced their reptilian agility) and be suseptible to the slowing/speeding effects of cold/fire spells. They could be classified as a demon (arguable) so arrows of demon slaying would be affective against them. They could (optional) have the ability to dig (their claws have become very sharp and tough for this purpose) but that could be a rare thing, not like ants or dwarves that happen quite often; perhaps only when they are confused or paniking :).
Bug evaluation: No evaluation so far.
Comments (3808): very clever and creative idea, but if it's a chaos humanoid deformed by chaos, it would be better that his name be chaos drakeling, with a purple "l".

I'd settle for any new summon monsters. Black wizards never have reliable critters for you to go against.

-- NMBLNG (2004-12-19, 22:15:16)
Accidental typos:

"adventure" = "adventurer"
"nostrals" = "nostrils"

PS. A very likeable RFE :)

yep, agreed with NMBLNG (wtf did your name come from btw)

-- Note from Thomas Biskup: One or more comments for this report have been banned because they contain HTML code and this website recently has been spammed by idiots trying to swamp the website with advertisements.

Why not to make a "corrupted gnome", with a ruby eye-prothesis, "corrupted Gray Elf" with YERY snobbish look shouting "GOY" at everything that moves, and "corrupted High Elf", with fingers nervously trying to find an absent Long Bow?

Some races are just not ment to be corrupted due to the fact that incursion began recently, and specifically in *Drakalor Chain*, leaving all other territories uncorrupted.

Gnomes, Drakelings, High and Gray Elves, Hurthlings obviously don't live in Drakalor Chain. Orcs and Dark Elves are common chaotic and brutal cave dwellers, Trolls are somewhat non-civilized almost-animals, which could be found near rivers.

So, IMO, we don't really need corrupted beings who don't inhibit Drakalor Chain in their normal form.

Nice RFE and correct arguments by Nchurmdaz => a great idea for JADE, isn't it?

XBox Console Thomas Biskup recommends: XBox Console
"Yes, I confess it - Microsoft has brought me back into console gaming. And there's a simple reason for it: I don't like hardware, I don't like fiddling with systems and I like to take it easy. The XBox system IMHO is as easy to use as its get. You have a built-in hard disc and never have to think about extensions to be able to save games (memory sticks, yikes :-P ), the games are great, the graphics are great and the price is ok. I have spent many hours playing Star Wars Battlefront and Fable and intend to continue doing this. So for me this is a safe bet and I surly will by the XBox 360 as soon as it is available. Of you want a simple console system with great games you can't go wrong here."
