I had this same bug notice. It happened when I tried to start the game and I was generating a character. I picked a high elf wizard and started choosing talents. I got two talents and after picking the next talent game crashed and told that it was illegal skill advancement.

-- T-J Panttila (2005-01-10, 08:25:26)
As far as I've been able to determine this error comes from something in the 'Skilled' Talent tree.

-- Darwithe (2005-01-21, 00:18:46)
Yes, it happens whenever we choose "Skilled (+2 to all skills)" as a talent. Which is a pity, because this is a talent I'd always choose if available. Ah well, such is life.

-- Rui Pires (2005-01-30, 17:45:48)
After testing, I've found that regardless of whether you choose "Skilled" first, last, or somewhere in the middle (depending on how many talents you can choose), the game still crashes.

However, the game will not crash until the world map is displayed (after choosing all your talents). At least, I'm assuming the world map is being displayed, as I can see the stat bar after ADOM explains how to report a bug.

I'm going out on a limb here, but it looked to me like it was trying to advance ALL skills... not just the ones I had. For instance, I'm a Priest, and the "Skilled" talent tried advancing backstab, etc. That is purely hypothetical, not the actual scenario. But I believe that's what might be happening...

Yes that might be it - it tires to advance the skills you don't start out with, and thus the error. Anyway, you know how many posts there are of the "skilled" talent crash? over 100, as I am counting them.

Hmm, This Gives Me An Idea; If SOMEONE Sees This Comment Please Tell Your Opinion,

To Make This Casino Bullshit Dissappear, We Can Create An ADOM COMMENTERS COMMUNITY (ACC), Which Anyone Can Join (Still Making Possible The Original Comment Mode Same As Always) But This (Reponsible) Members Has The Power Of Modifying Comments Or Erasing Them;

Having Our "Headquarters" That For Banning Those Who Join For Creating Havoc In This Place.

I Think That, If We Use This Comment System, Is Our Responsability To Keep It Clean, So I'll E-Mail Thomas Biskup With This Idea, Hoping That He Will See This With An Open Mind.

I got it too.
- version 1.1.1
- system WinXP SP2 Polish
- what i did:

generatirng character:
- male > drakeling > necromancer >

then i choosed the talent about throwing scourgari and then i choosed the talent SKILLED where i should get +2 to all initial skills. When i pressed the (i think) \'L\' button it crashed.

Hope this is some help.

I got the same bug from choosing \"skilled\". My os is windows ME.

-- split9102 (2008-09-20, 20:59:30)
I\'ve been running into the same issue. Is there a workaround for this? Or any plans to fix the bug? I am so far loving this game, but this bug does definitely get frustrating. I have tried picking the Talent skill first, last or in the middle of skill picking during character generation.

Holy shnizit, this is so cool thank you.

American Gods Thomas Biskup recommends: American Gods
"I really have been enjoying Neil Gaiman lately. The man is a great storyteller, sports incredible mythological knowledge and really knows how to turn wheels within wheels. I really loved the story plot of this book: Where do all the gods (and other mythological beings) go, when their believers get fewer and fewer? A situation particularly problematic in the United States, where emigrants where concerned with the new world, new beliefs and new freedoms. An ex-convict gets hired by a (more or less) mysterious Mr. Wednesday and starts a weird trip through the US... wacky staff but very good reading. And it nicely shows how to build metaplots and loosen a story up with interesting side characters."

More details about this item can be found here: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany.
