Hi folks!Yes, I still exist
Thanks for being patient. Here’s a quick update (I’m sitting in the lobby of my hotel in Ohrid, Macedonia and waiting for our taxi):
- I got married on the 15th of August, 2009. The wedding war great and we are still in the process of organizing all pictures, etc.
- We spent our honeymoon on Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. A truly different world. If you have the chance to go there, do it and enjoy “Cook time”. The Royal Takitumi is the perfect spot in paradise
- A couple of days before the marriage I managed to finish my Ph.D. thesis. If all goes work I’m going to defend it on Friday, 13th of November 2009 (Friday, 13th, of all things…
). - I slowly restart to work on JADE. As always the start is sluggish because I need time to get back into all the concepts and things but I’m very much looking forward to slowly get back to a regular update track. I need to think about a release strategy but currently I favour “just releasing” something even if it’s not yet a good game. You all have been so patient over all the years that it probably won’t hurt to just start somewhere and then continue to evolve like ADOM. All the other mini-projects (ADOM RPG, iADOM, …) are all only for the time when the creative coding juices don’t flow so JADE now has top priority. This still doesn’t mean there will be a release tomorrow (a 50-60 hour per week job sadly is different from being a student like in the heydey of ADOM), but now is the time
So I will keep you posted!

Congratulations, and welcome back
By the way, what happened to releasing those small ADOM patches to fix the crash bugs?

Welcome back.
We got a problem with the forums: lots of spam (roughly 8000 posts, I think. In the past few days one user (”topler”) has been making over one thousand posts *per day*).
Would be nice if you appointed a moderator. We’ve been discussing this in the “This forum needs…” thread[1]. I personally think Grey would be the perfect choice. Of course now that you are back you might prefer to deal with it yourself.
Is your current address the one listed in the whois record for your other blog?

Congratulations! Best wishes for you and your new bride!
Can’t wait to play JADE! Even the early first release! I’ve been a loyal fan of ADOM since about gamma 3 or 4, and I think we can deal with JADE being released in the same sort of way.

Hey, me and a friend are planning a little on developing a rogue-like for cell phones(currently planned for the nokia 5800xm), and we would love to have any input you could give us. I’m currently studying software engineering, first year, so I’m aware that I’m not really developer-material yet, but hey, everyone has to have a idea they want to make real, right?
Thanks a bunch for giving us all more hope that one day, Jade will be a reality.
You rock.

Congratulations on your wedding, I hope you two have a long and happy life together!
I think applying the “release early, release often” motto to Jade is a good decision, I’m looking forward to playing even the alphas.

Congrats on the marriage!
I just wish that you would inform us hwen you have a long pause on JADE blog. ‘Cos that would be fair, I think, for us, your supporters.

I definitely agree with “release early, release often”. Well, maybe the latter wouldn’t happen, but it would be exciting to see some real results soon, no matter how basic. Any further thoughts on releasing some of the ADOM source?

Welcome back! And congratz on the wedding too! Wishing you guys a long and happy future together! And while were on congratz… congratulations on your thesis paper too! And here is a blessing for you so that the gods may smile on you (to remove your cursed status when defending your thesis paper).

Congrats on getting married! I got marrried this August, too (Aug 2), sounds like Rarotonga would have been a great place to honeymoon. I agree with the other posters, I like releasing my game when there is any new content and the game’s in a releasable state (no show-stopping bugs). I hate schedules because it could take a few days to a few months to get there. That also gives you time to step away from the game if needed.
