Mac Migration, part II

November 17th, 2009 · 4 Comments

It’s over…

The Mac migration I mean :-) Well, too much trouble pursue it right now. Wordpress does not work correctly with Safari in the version I am using and I’m just too lazy to upgrade right now… the ADOM Wordpress template is hand written in some parts (stupid me) and was a pain in the ass to get to run. SO if you happen to have proposals for a nice off-the-shelf Wordpress template to use for the future ADOM blog, let me know. Till then I just am going to blog using Windows.

And as for the programming environment… after one night of sleep I see no reasons to change my typing behaviour (e.g. learn different Mac keystrokes), especially considering the fact that my day job is governed by using Windows. So I’ll continue to code from my trusty Windows notebook for now. The Mac will only be used for Mac debugging and writing the ADOM RPG (probably - currently even that has been done on my Windows Notebook and maybe I also will keep it that way).

Next steps are:

  • Implement a simple Java Applet that allows you to start JADE from the browser. I already can think about a couple of places where this will break the current code (e.g. automated class scanning probably should be donewith the Spring tools - my code to do this is… preliminary).
  • Write an Ant build in order to package the JADE applet.
  • Get a page up and running where people will be able to explore the Applet.

Sorry to hear your Mac migration didn’t really work.

Just being curious: What areas still need to be worked to make JADE “playable”? Probably stuff related to UI and items, I guess?

    Re: Safari
I’m in the middle of migrating from Windows to Mac. I’m using Opera, not Safari. Never used it on Windows. I guess my point is that you might be able to work with your legacy Wordpress setup if you use a different browser.

Learning the Mac keystrokes is a little bit of a bother at first, but the retraining does not really take all that long.

    In any case, good luck!

Hanenashi: Imo a hideous workaround of the real problem, but yes it works. ;)
