Altar changes to white instead of black(Mac OS X)
Mac OS X version: sacrificing monsters on altar makes altar change to unexpected side

It seem to be always reproduceable on Mac OS X version. I have seen following effects on sacrifices:
1) Chaotic character (DE) sacrifices neutral monster on gray altar: Altar get white instead of black
2) Chaotic character (DE) sacrifices chaotic monster on black altar: Altar get gray. In next few sacrifices get white.

pre 1 and pre 3 are affected

Does the altar than continue to behave like a lawful altar, or is it a chaotic altar that looks white? ie does the god yell at you if you drop stuff on it?

Yes, it behaves as lawful. After many sacrifices after character converts to lawful too, and even get precrowning.

I have also seen this, a gray alter turned white after a chaotic character sacrificed 7500 gold. Confirmed that it is now a lawful altar by dropping a potion of water, which was picked up as a potion of unholy water.
This is in 1.2.0 pre 3 on OS X 10.7.4

In addition to making gray altars turn white, my chaotic troll just turned a black altar into a gray one by sacrificing rocks. My character isn't doomed, it just seems that sacrificing for chaotics is completely hosed now.

I have included the save game for the case where sacking rocks turned the altar to neutral (Broum.svg.zip)

Neutrals also convert altar to lawful

@RadarKev: I get an error using your saved game. Are you sure this is from 1.2.0 Pre 3 for OSX?

Debian 6 64-bit 1.2.0p3 save.

C character, N altar. Go south one square and sac the gold.

You see an ancient altar of gray granite.
How many (ENTER = 3318)?
You sense a conflict between supernatural entities.
Issrecht and Sssracht seem to be quarreling for supremacy!
Sssracht triumphs!
You hear the angry wail of Issrecht.
The altar glows in a bright light.
The 3318 gold pieces are consumed by a bright light and disappear.
You see an ancient altar of pure white marble.
Sssracht is the lawful god, Issrecht neutral. Again, char is chaotic.

It also happens on 32-bit (Linux Debian 6 again): http://ancardia.us.to/F.svg

So this effectively prevents N and C characters from ever being crowned. I'd say that's pretty important. I hope I'm allowed to run another prerelease version that fixes that bug on my public server.

This problem should be fixed with Prerelease 4. It was caused by a data type definition that was only used by Linux and OSX. This definition was fixed in the process of merging all the different "curses implementations" which happened right after the release of Prerelease 3.
