Neutral monsters throw things at me
Neutral monsters that are supposedly not hostile still throw their weapon

- Prerelease 8, Windows 7 x64 -
In recent prereleases it seems like the monsters are just a little bit nicer in general and less than 100% of them go into a murderous rage the instant they see the player, however I believe I have observed a bug with this new code. An orc threw her crude knife at me even though she wasn't hostile yet:

Code:
Someone throws a crude knife at you! The attack misses.
You pick up the crude knife. You add the crude knife to your ammunition.
[T]arget -- [M]ore -- [+] Next monster -- [-] Previous monster -- [Z] Abort.
Target: a female orc (neutral).
Really attack the female orc? [y/N]
[T]arget -- [M]ore -- [+] Next monster -- [-] Previous monster -- [Z] Abort.
Target: a female orc (neutral).
Really attack the female orc? [y/N] (x2)
Which direction [78946123, Z = ABORT]?
You change position. The female orc fails to hurt you.
You hit the female orc and critically wound her. The female orc fails to hurt you.
You hit the female orc and slay her.
Serves her right. This took place in the SMC to my gnomish dualist.
I suspect that other monsters: orc scorcher, etc. would throw their weapons when neutral as well.

It was probably hostile when it threw it. In that turn you spent picking up the knife, it changed from hostile to neutral. This is an acknowledged bug (monsters flip-flop between hostile and neutral too often) that will be fixed in the next version. Honestly the biggest reason I can't wait....
