It also breaks NotEye after that - every time I try to "eat" (with any character) I get an ascii view of the tiles where I last viewed monster memory (including with a completely different character)

It seems like this update has broken something with he UI. A number of people have ran into a bug like this (especially from steam). This should probably get fixed ASAP.
I uploaded a savegame just to be sure this bug can be found. Some people seem to have more problems, there's also a second bug report that is related to this: http://www.adom.de/forums/project.php?issueid=6155
