The ways to begin
If everything can be randomly generated, why not the beginning?
I figured out that a first idea to toss out could very well be an idea for the very beginning of the game.
There are various ways how fantasy stories traditionally start, so I thought it would be cool if JADE didn't always start in the same way. ADOM had you come to Drakalor Chain at the beginning, regardless of who you were, but a bigger world has bigger possibilities. I'd suggest that at the beginning, the PC gets assigned a life story that directly ties into the game in one of the scenarios like this:
1. Vengeful Hero
You start just outside your home, a small village, with a minimal equipment. When you enter it, you find the village ransacked, and everybody, including your parents is dead. Someone is only dying, and he gives you some information. There's not much in the way of supplies in the village (attackers took everything), but you can still find some items that will be useful.
2. Noble adventurer
You start in your parents' house (occupation may vary) in a mid-sized town. You're well-known, people in the town generally like you, so you have some price drop in local store etc. You basically play a hero who has a place to return for night, but in this scenario, you also have to protect your home town well to avoid situation as in scenario 1.
3. Secret mission
A distant kingdom has sent you to this land to investigate troubling rumors. You have fairly good starting equipment, but you start without any base or friends, so for some time, you need to rely on your sword and your wits.
4. Hero in Training
You lost your parents and was adopted by a wise hermit who trained you. You start in his cave, having completed your training, and ready to go to the world. (Of course, your training is never really complete :) )
