Monsters get first move

Again, not sure if this is a bug or intentional behaviour, but in recent versions monsters seem to get the first move when you enter a new level. It's a bit harsh if you happen to get next to a greater moloch, gorgon, emperor lich or any other potential instakiller - you're left with not a single chance to escape or prepare for it. Not sure when this changed, it was some versions ago.

The original way was IMHO much more merciful by giving you the first move.

I wonder if that's related to the bug where commands that don't take a turn, like an F key to change tactics, gave them a move. I thought that was fixed though. It would only happen once after entering an area.

Potentially descending the staircase is counted as the PC's move? I agree, the PC should be able to teleport away before being struck - for example.

The same phenomenon is seen when you dig up graves and the lichs jump out - they get to hit first. Here of course you could argue that you are asking for trouble when opening graves, but my guess is that the same change of approach is what's causing this as well.

Using '<' or '>' probably should not count as a move anymore. That's better suited for the new internal event mechanism.
