At present, there's no way to know if you have failed the platinum girdle quest until you arrive at D:50. I'd like to suggest that blessed scrolls of balance be able to show you this condition.

My recommendation would be that if the PC is still eligible for the platinum girdle, after the usual message about white stones/black stones, the scroll of balance says something like "The white stones gleam brightly."
