More uses for booze
Improve usefulness of potions of booze and inns

Potions of booze are pretty common items which only have one main use, charging wands (useful as it is for some PCs). Using them like this is not something that a player is likely to come up with on their own, as the only clue is one fortune cookie message. Since alcohol is clearly part of Ancardia's world, and somehow connected with mana, I propose that alcohol should have more effects on the PC than currently:
  • Drinking potions of booze, or at Torgall's, should train Ma and abuse Wi.
  • Drunkenness should add a temporary boost to Ma but have a chance to cause spells to fail and make the PC confused for 1-2 turns at random points (increasing with drunkenness level).
  • The "Drunk" status condition should last a lot longer, and the effects stack (OK maybe this one is just because I'd like to imagine pissed wizards wandering round the CoC :)).

Also, an (overpriced) pub at the Casino would seem appropriate just as a background feature.

I like where you are going but I think it needs more value, maybe a temporary +PV (can't feel any pain) and -to hit

They have another use - trade with the Fool, which already gives them twice more uses than almost every other potion except for water.

Potions of booze are already extremely valuable and one of the most coveted potions in the game precisely because one of their sole purposes is to charge wands. It makes little sense to me to add more uses for them when they are already so useful.

I don't really see the point given that they already have two interesting uses.

I'd never use booze for anything other than charging wands. Alternative uses would have to be truly amazing to change this.

As other posters have pointed out, booze is already very useful. However, drunkenness isn't. I don't think any of my characters has gotten drunk from booze in the last 2-3 years, and it's a pity.

I think the drunkenness feature could be given a bit more protagonism in some way... be it by giving it some boni so that players will get drunk voluntarily, or by creating a quest (a drunken fist duel?), or by making it easier to get it involuntarily (in theory you could get drunk from pool sipping but this is extremely rare - maybe there could be a special room smelling of wine where you got drunk if you stayed for a while).

Alcohol has lots of calories, so it should be a satiating potion in my opinion. Also, it would cause a nice tradeoff between recharging wands and not starving to death. :)

Cursed potions of booze could have a 10 % chance of temporarily blinding the drinker as well as causing -1 Pe, as impure alcohol might contain methanol.

Finally a good idea: cursed potions of booze have a chance to blind the player.

The ideas on simulating drunkenness in the game sound terrible, and add nothing to the game IMHO. Voted against.

Um, the game already simulates drunkenness! The fact that you never saw it contributes to prove my point above :)

And cursed booze already blinds the PC :)

Of course I never got drunk! Those potions are far far too useful! :p
And to be incredibly stubborn: given the OP's assumption that drunkenness isn't in the game, I still maintain that it wouldn't be worth the effort to add a drunken mechanic. :)
(I'll return to being more reasonable once I'm sober.) ;)
