You can freeze wilderness water squares with the help of certain figurines of wondrous power (ice vortex, ice lizard, etc - see 4753). Attempting to enter a wilderness ice patch crashes the game with an "Unknown encounter area (43)." error message. Afterwards, the save file is corrupted, resulting in an "Illegal sight range for encounter area 43." crash every time it is loaded.
