Decrease rarity of amulet of death ray resistance
Decrease the rarity of amulets of death ray resistance

Given the new monster rarity system, it is now much more common for a PC to encounter ki-rins and emperor liches at higher DLs. The rarity of amulets of death ray resistance should be accordingly adjusted to compensate for this, death ray being one of the very few sources of instant death for powerful high level PCs.

I don't oppose the RFE (and am not voting against), but I think it isn't really necessary either, as we also have the AMW.

There's also the sword of Nonnak (even if not specializing in swords, you probably didn't want to melee emperor liches and ki-rins anyway).

Like Al-Khwarizmi, I'm not actively against this but it's really not necessary. AMW, Nonnak, Pools (both wishes and intrinsic are available), RoDS & dipping for them... and there're quite a few random artifacts that give death resistance too.

Pfft. With the current monster distribution, Ki-rins and Emperor Liches are probably rarer than they were in 1.1.1

My most recent winner killed 29 Emperor Liches without a GUV so ... maybe not

The amulet already has DL of 1 right? I seem to always find multiples before I even hit Dwarftown.

Maybe not? Threat/Tension rooms of Emperor Liches are not the norm. Average is probably less than 1 Emperor Lich per non-grinding Gate Closer.

No. There are guaranteed means of DR resistance already.

I'm fine with having something in game which is meant to instant kill you. There are ways to avoid death ray (as well as any kind of ray) and there is a guaranteed source of resistance already as mentioned above.
Death ray isn't meant to be something which just require a resistance, it's death ray by the way.

I am aware of the two guaranteed sources, but might I point out the fact that these might not be so clear to unspoiled players, especially in the case of the artifact sword. The same can be said for ring-dipping and other obscure means. In my own experience, ki-rins and emperor liches are definitely more common now than before the new monster generation mechanics. Many characters of different race/class combinations will not have Alertness or very high speeds by the time they get below the casino, making death ray resistance very important, where in previous versions, it was more of a situational thing mostly reserved for dealing with greater undead vaults or the mana temple.
