Expanded Tactics
There's more to tactics than cowardice/berserking

In ADoM, there was one tactics element - namely, you could choose to be between "coward" and "berserk". Changes in this tactic were instantaneous, and all they really did was change DV/to-hit, and, if on one of the extreme settings, also influence a few other minor things.

For JADE, I'd like to see the tactics system expanded.

For instance, what if you could choose to "hold ground", allowing you to increase your DV and PV, while losing the ability to move around - that is, you become fixed to the spot, but as a result, you are able to defend yourself better. However, switching between "hold ground" and normal would require a turn, as "holding ground" does require a bit of physical setup.

The various tactics would be learnable, with some, like "hold ground", being given at the start. Some tactics could even be more extensive, allowing you to perform attacks that are otherwise unavailable. All tactics would come with drawbacks, but some of the advanced ones that can be learned would be very powerful. And furthermore, there could be tactics that are available only to certain species or classes, or only under very specific conditions.

Some other possible tactics:

- "Manoeuvre", allowing you to dodge around foes in many cases (useful for getting into more defensible positions), but opening you up to attack in the process.
- "Focus", allowing you to boost your accuracy and damage when attacking in one direction, but making you weak to attack from behind and preventing you from attacking in any other direction.
- "Wrestle", usable only when unarmed or holding daggers or other such small weapons, this would allow you to do extra damage to a foe smaller than or equal in size to you, but leaves you open to attack by others, still. Not advisable to use this against foes that attack through touch (like, say, ghosts).
- "Judo", another unarmed tactic, this one allows you to counter weight-based attacks by foes - attacks with clubs, maces, etc, as well as unarmed attacks by heavier foes. However, attempting judo against a sword-wielder, a staff-wielder, etc, would not be advisable.
- "Attack posture", reduces time required to attack, thus enabling more attacks... however, opens you up to attack by foe as well.
- "Defense posture", increases time required to attack, thus reducing number of attacks, but increases PV and DV.
- "Caution", reduces chance of triggering traps, but slows movement. Increases DV.
- "Ninja", requires Backstabbing skill and high Stealth, boosts ability to avoid missiles and often enables PC to sneak up on monster, but makes PC much weaker to melee attacks.

Those are just a few off the top of my head, I'd like others to come up with more.

The time required to switch to/from these tactics (relative to "normal") would be dependent on the tactic in question. They would run independently of the basic cowardice/berserker scale, which would retain its instantaneous nature.
