changed requirements for Platinum girdle?

Very few people have managed to obtain the Platinum girdle. The main reason is that it requires that you never let a good NPC die, so if a blink dog on the other side of the level dies your attempt is ruined. This seems a bit unfair. At the same time, you can ignore lawful quests just fine and even robbing shops is ok, if you use one of the more sophisticated methods. Imho it would be more interesting to have somewhat different requirements, maybe something in the spirit of the suggestion made in this old post:

When you get ambushed by Blink Dogs on a corridor of one of the early dungeons, there's not much you can do.

A moot point, of course, given that development on ADOM is dead, but here are some alternative platinum girdle restrictions I would have preferred:

- No eating chaotic/undead/chaos corpses (so no snacking on goblins or orcs!)
- No attacking non-hostiles (only the 'Are you sure you want to attack y/n?' ones, though).
- No attacking monsters while invisible.
- No pickpocketing (period).
- No robbing stores/the Water Dragon.
- No accepting the Kranach reward (i.e, leave the gold on the ground).
- All Chaos Corpses (they'd be guaranteed to be generated) must be taken to the Druid in Terinyo.
- Holy Water must be poured on Grif's grave, either instead of or after he's killed in melee, but before leaving the level after killing the necromancer. If you follow me.
- No ratling/Gaab'Bay quests.
- No gambling in the Casino.
- All lawful quests must be completed (i.e, Thrundarr's, Water Dragon, White Unicorn, Rynt/Guth'Alak, Kranach AND Puppy quest (a pain in the ass, believe me, I have to do both every time because of my OCD)) excluding the 'Kill Hotzenplotz' one (alternatively, make Hotzenplotz hostile if bandit town is visited after receiving this quest).
- No grave digging.
- 90 day time limit - it's unlawful to allow the background Chaos corruption to proceed to such a high degree.

Also:
+ It's permitted to attack hostiles of any alignment.
+ No penalties for friendly/otherwise creatures dying.

Would have made an Ultra platinum ending impossible, but it'd still be fun, at least.

By creating another RFE of course.
Yes, like Biskup said: "How about a new RFE with some simple but creative added complexity for gaining the girdle?"

On the other side, I understand that the usual strategy (back in 1.1.1) to obtain True Strength was obtaining teleportation and magic mapping quickly, then get crowned lawful and rush towards D:50 clearing temples in a blaze and mapping + teleporting your way to the down staircase in all other levels. Now that teleportation, HP casting, spenseweed and stairhopping were all nerfed, doesn't the change balance for that?

This also means unspoiled players might at least have a small chance of getting the girdle if they roleplay a lawful character. L monsters won't attack you, and you won't be penalized if a swarm of blink dogs takes on a moloch, or dwarves in DT get in melee range with the greater daemon, with expected results.

Personally, I've been playing for 7 years, and only found out about this "quest" by reading tons of spoilers in 2011. The Guidebook only makes two passing, forgettable mentions, which basically only tell you an item called platinum girdle exists in the game. I don't think I would have ever found out about it otherwise, and I didn't always play chaotic PCs (my first scummed win was a L+ wizard who tried to avoid chaotic acts as much as possible - I was young and foolish :)).

I have no problems with the thing being hard to obtain, but there's a fine line between "expectedly difficult, but doable" (the current approach as I see it) and "frustrating task nearly impossible to perform without scumming" (the way it was before).

I think it still restricts you not to make chaotic actions. He made lawful deaths allowable but not by the PC's hand to stop the previous problem of blink dogs on random traps, which seemed unfair.

Let's see how it goes in the new versions before laying judgement on it. The no-chaotic actions restriction is still enough to put off most from completing it.

I think we can keep our powder dry until we see people posting more plats... which i've yet to see. I tried this challenge recently with a HE archer and didn't get the girdle, so I must have done something wrong.

Yes, I think I overreacted at the time out of sheer surprise.

Afterthought - How do you feel about Khelavaster, puppy and carpenter for flavour? Maybe not, because it doesn't have too much to do with willpower. Gambling?

[Balance] All add of them. And if in the question system you choose to slay your master after learning everything, the girdle should be forfeit from the start. :D
