spambots getting out of control again
spambots getting out of control again

I keep banning these 'freshmobile' spammers, as are Silfir
and Grey I imagine, but they just keep coming. Added to the
mess is the fact that only Grey can actually delete them.

Is there a way to up the security a bit? None of the spammers
I have seen have even near-legitimate answers to the 'What is
your favorite race and class' question. Is there maybe a way
to do a check on that before confirming an account?

A good method I've seen other sites use is asking a question like this:

"Which of these is not a real class in ADOM or JADE? Wizard, Barbarian, Dinosaur, Mindcrafter"

The actual options would be randomized so one couldn't brute force the answer out.

The question as it is would be fine, if it actually did a check.
Few spambots are even naming something that is on the
line of a fantasy race or class. Mostly they print something
like 'sdhfl' and they still get approved.

One of the bots I banned had "advertiser" as its favorite Race/Class. At least it's honest, I guess.

Looking into this. It seems that the upgrade to a more recent vBulletin version does have its problems :-(

I have changed to a question system. Please e-mail me at my business account if this makes things even worse.

iIt did not make things worse, it improved them considerably.
Unfortunately, it still seems to not be making the check properly though.
