Companion special effects

I love the fact that you can hire a companion in the new village, and it got me thinking... wouldn't it be cool if companions were more than just an extra sword?

For example:

Junior thief detects traps automatically when he passes adjacent, similar to the L6 thief ability.
Master swordsman trains you as you travel, giving you double weapon marks if you use a sword.

etc...

This would be extremely great! I also recommend adding maybe 1-2 more named companions to existing areas before calling the game entirely done, to expand even more on this kind of awesome variety.
I wonder if Blup could become one in certain circumstances too?
