AMW is pinpoint need. Just at some occasions, the rest of the time... you won't have a tendency to care.
After all, are you wearing a -pet item all the time because a gorgon could teleport and kill you in one turn?

AMW is nice to wear all the time because you don't have to worry about armour destruction. Too many times with melee characters I've found that during the course of battle my eternium plate has been butchered down to 0 PV (and I don't mean in the bug temple - can happen against a lot of powerful monsters).

If you spend a lot of time doomed, you'll come to appreciate how beneficial a piece of indestructable armor is... not that any sane person would want to spend any more time doomed than absolutely necessary.
