    Default Pet Question

How do you get a pet to simply stand in place and attack whatever
comes through a doorway? I'm trying to figure it out but my pet
constantly moves away from said doorway and I have to re-order
him to attack stuff, or move or wait. It's not getting injured; it's
at "slightly injured" status, nor is it afraid, it simply wanders away.
    Code:
    Really kick the child? [y/N]

You can't give them very complicated orders, unfortunately. If you order the pet to wait, but it finds something to attack, then it'll discard the previous order. There isn't really a "stand ground" order. If you're in a room at the end of a corridor, you can stand in the corridor with the pet in front of you, if your original purpose was similar.

Something like that; I was in a room with herbs, but I had no keys,
no wands, and a pet, so I thought maybe the pet could stand
near the door and kill things that wander nearby; that way, both
my character and pet could be getting tougher at the same time.

I suppose you could leave your pet in the corridor and close the door, locking it out (assuming there is only one door?), but then, you wouldn't be able to see if your pet died/how injured it is etc.

Assuming you have something not seeing in dark:
    1.pet in corridor
    2. order to stay
    3. cast darkness
4.Profit as pet won't fight in darkness and mobs should not fight him either while he is waiting.
So far rolled 15 casters with RoDS and shamelessly killed them within 200 turns. For eternium glory!
    (after 15 I stopped counting...)

    Unless an Orc wanders by.
