    Default garths training

i know the formula but im not sure i understand it, its like 100xstat plus 5 for every other fifteen?

can someone please give me some numbers to tell me how it actually works for how much?

im wondering like from 25 how much would it cost to 26, and then to 30?

and any other random numbers would help me

The old formula is that you pay 100*stat doubled for every 5 over 15.

    (stat * 100) * max(1, 2^(floor((stat-15)/5)))

So in your case, about 10,000 would be a probable increase from 25->26.

The actual formula is extremely complicated, but it has a trivial optimum - always donate 1$ at a time. However this is very boring.

old formula is so wrong that it is not funny.

100% numbers in IGB are not perfect [as you pay a lot for being 100% instead of 95%]. Having sort of guideline for reasonable risk at reasonable money [let say 90-95% success] wuld be good.

We just need find someone willing to deal with numbers.
So far rolled 15 casters with RoDS and shamelessly killed them within 200 turns. For eternium glory!
    (after 15 I stopped counting...)

Yeah, I'm aware, which is why I designated it as the "old formula." I still use it as I'm too lazy to calculate anything else.

For stats under 20, 400 x (current value) always gets me an increase for stats in the 15-19 range. Sometimes I can get it with a factor of 200 instead, but not consistently. For stats under 15, replace the factors with 200/100. One reason is might vary is that your character trained the stat already through play, so the first time you visit Garth you're more likely to get away with the lower multiplier (or even just dumping a few hundred and hoping it tips you over the edge). But I think race and class also play a role--some characters just require more training for some stats.

On the other hand, I've heard of people dumping huge amounts of cash on Garth and receiving several increases over time. I've tried that, but it doesn't seem to work for me. With herbs it does work, but with Garth no.

For stats above 20 I seldom bother with Garth. Really high stats aren't necessary to doing well in the game or winning, and herbs take the most important ones up to 26. Giant corpses eventually boost Str to 24-26. I might dump a huge wad of casino gold on an extra point of learning for characters using spells, but an easier strategy for getting lots of castings is to read your books in Dwarftown while wearing the Crown of Science.

That's THE main advantage of training with Garth. You can train as many training points as you want. Dump about 400 millions into training, and he'll bump your stat from about 20 to about 80. Pay him 600-800 millions and you'll have 99 in a stat soon enough. However, not only you need to remove stat-giving items upon training, you need to remove them once you're getting close to 99. Training of Dexterity will stop at 99 of CURRENT stat, but if you then unwear the kitty ring that you were wearing til then, you'll realise that you're stuck with 16DEX less than you wanted. Personally, I pretty much always get some strength (100-200 million worth at most) for carrying capacity, and learning as high as I possibly can, even 99. Reading spellbooks becomes >REALLY< fun then.
