    Default First win with a Drakish Healer

    First: I love healers. They are the perfect warrior-spellcaster hybrids because of their high To and both the find weakness and the concentration skill. You have to go to the rift to find any spellbooks, but they heal so quickly that you won't have any trouble casting from HP later on. This is why new players (like me) should play healers to be able to survive the early game and dabble in magic later to take on tough monsters such as the orb guardians. In fact, I barely used melee attacks at all on D:50 to be able to stay in coward mode.

    I sure hope I will cut back on my ADOM-playing from now on - this game is a bit too addictive to allow a normal life.
    I started this healer by going through the UD and found a stomafillia patch two levels above a neutral altar, which allowed me to get the robes of resistance (great, more toughness) and preserver (which did wonders for my spellcasting later) as crowning and postcrowning gifts respectively.
    Sadly, there were no Artifacts generated in the casino (maybe I just missed them), but I accidentally stepped out of the gift shop, which angered the guards and the shopkeeper, but I was able to brutally murder them with my extraordinary toughness and some well-placed acid balls.
    After then doing many other unremarkable thing, such as being nearly slain by battle bunnies (I managed to lock them in, or rather myself) and the cat lord (which, thankfully, can't break doors), I stumbled through the various elemental temples (the Mana Temple of course being the worst), I found D:50. Ohh boy. Balors do really hit hard and often. And this doesn't say anything about their corruption attack. after I had disposed of them and their chaos servant/mutant friends, I had no Acid Ball castings anymore; instead, I was down to 15 corruptions. This didn't hurt me as much as the speed reduction from D:49, which I could not reverse except by potions of boost speed. After I tried to kill the ghost lords in the central room and got aged to 82 years (still thankful for the blessed potions of longevity I had drunk), I had the great idea to just lock them in. Thus, I could handle the levers and finally close the chaos gate.

    As for drakelings: their acid spit is very useful against karmic lizards in the early game as well as for losing the bloated status for eating stat-increasing corpses. The speed reduction on D:50 is steep though. I like them anyway.
    Healers are great for HP casting - I had to drink only one potion of extra healing on D:50.

    you finished the game using the scorched spear? wow, congrats, thats what I call perseverance. I think I would probably have stuck to your nice penetrating sword...

    I would have used Emerald Dagger or Big Punch personally. Congratulations on the nice win.

    Well, when I got Big Punch I didn't have the means of carrying it, an the Emerald Dagger I never found. Additionally, I didn't want to give up on all the weapon marks I had gotten. It didn't matter too much anyway, since in the late game I was able to kill most things in melee well enough and resorted to magic anyway for the toughies.
    But yes, using these silly spears most of the game probably wasn't too good of an idea.

    I say using the spear instead of the rune covered trident
    was stylish. Not generating the RCT was too : )

    With that many spells it makes sense to stick with spear/shield, no?

    I also would have switch to the penetrating sword. The DV bonus from spears is fairly minor overall. If you want to rely purely on spells then two shields is miles better, and if want a decent melee option then all the pointy things are pretty much the same for defence.

    Congrats on a first win though. Drakish healers are awesome I love how ridiculous your To stat is compared to the others.
