Thread: Let's play "How will the RNG kill my character?"

  1. #1

Default Let's play "How will the RNG kill my character?"

Just a couple of days ago I lost a perma-invisible drakish farmer to a titan on DH:1. (This was totally my fault and preventable twice-over: I should have checked if titans could see invis *before* I ran across him, and I should have read a scroll of darkness when he noticed me. I also should avoid the DH generally because I have never once survived it. Stupid death.)

So let's play "How will the RNG kill my character?" Either post your character or tell someone else what gruesome fate lies in store for his character. Or both. It's yer choice.

My character: Elsa, L15 HE Wizard. Large selection of spells, just entered the pyramid. One of my best characters so far; the only one that's gotten further is a gnomish elementalist who cleared out the Pyramid and is still alive on another computer. (But that's a story for another post.)

    Here are Elsa's vitals:

How will the RNG kill my character?

Overconfidence in your melee skills ?
Something too fast for you (as you don't have teleport)
    Accidentaly kick stairs ?

A wizard with such fair stats and good spells who survived the early game has no reason to die too soon.

In an attempt to avoid DH by passing through animated forest Elsa gets surrounded by hostile trees.

Being a clever girl she is she roasts the trees with burning hands left and right thus horribly angering the whole forest! She tries to escape in vain and is MAULED to death by angry trees - who will wear hers intestines as decorations.

An out of sight troll kills a baby dragon on a black altar. You
enter the room, see the gold, plan to pick it up and kill the
troll, said troll then sacs you for just enough piety to crown.
"Whip me!" pleads the adom player. The rng replies... "No."

With that low To you could die from a lot of things...

Personally I'll go with getting sickened by a mummy in the pyramid and then killed by one of the baddies up there - possibly a fire vortex.

Instakill critical hit by a steel golem in darkforge.

Unless you're doing some zany challenge game, there's no reason that you should still be walking around with only 11 To and 63 HP at this point in the game. You should have at least double in both of those stats. Find some morgia roots...
Hoping to win with every class, doomed. Archer, Barbarian, Bard, Beastfighter, Druid, Elementalist, Farmer, Fighter, Monk, and ULE Priest down.

She will accidentally magic missile herself around D:20 or so. By the way, this game sounds fun

This seems like the one most likely to actually happen, but I have to say that gut's answer is the cleverest. It also sounds like something he's experienced firsthand.

The steel golem is still easy enough to prevent: web, darkness, invisibility. That assumes I see him coming, though...

I have a pair of morgia roots in my backpack, so I must have found a bush in the Big Room. It's overrun with monsters, IIRC -- not a threat, but still a major annoyance because of message spam, exacerbated by having to wait for the bushes to regrow. I haven't found any moss bushes, which is annoying, but I think my Dx is high enough for now.

Steel golems are immune to all three IIRC.

Not to Web. They do shrug them off often, but I have cleared Darkforge with low-level wizards many times thanks to Web.
