    Default Fallen lithium barb

Back in the bizz after few years break.

Goal was to win game in less than 500k turns with lithium-man barbarian. This time I really thought I had it. Nope...you die...

    Notes to self:
-neutral next time, Rolfs axe has none of use and SoCRs are must if Khelly is not saved
-hurtlings start with a club, they are likely to get skullcrusher
-dont go to mana temple without trap detection, heart breaking massdestruction of equipment (etc. torch, humanoid slaying ammo, 70% of all potions, managed to evade some ceilings but not all...)
-cleaning black-dragon vault is a trade off, you get 40% of your stuff destroyed and in exchange you get dragon loot that has about 10% usefull stuff
-altars are scarse, spare holy water

                                Background Information
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: V Anguish Race: male Hurthling Class: Barbarian
Eye color: green Hair color: black Complexion: tanned
    Height: 2'10" Weight: 66 pounds Scars: 2
    Age: 29 (young)
Star sign: Candle Birthday: 27/Candle (day 297 of the year)

    YOUR HISTORY:
Your mother was a wise shaman and healer. You didn't know your
father and his origins seem to be very mysterious.
As a child you were very active and imitated the hunters and
warriors of your tribe at all opportunities.
During your youth you traveled to nearby tribes and traded with
them. You met many strangers and learned a lot about the outside world.
As a young adult you more and more separated from the more
traditional members of your tribe. Your desire to see the outside world
     became overwhelming.
At the age of 29 you left your tribe.

500k turns is an awful lot. I understand you might need to w5 a lot to heal, but even still, that's hardly a restriction at all. I don't think I've ever taken more than 200k...

You really need the shield to get some use out of the axe. Those SoCR unfortunately aren't guaranteed though...

All barbarians have a high chance of getting crowned with skullcrusher. There is no racial dependence on artifact drops AFAIK, aside from elven bow and dwarven pickaxe.

Drop your gear at the entrance and clear the traps by running through. Once you've IDed the traps, you should be able to avoid most of them.

I normally avoid black dragon vaults. If you've got a lot of artifact gear + acid protection, you can leave most of your equipment behind when you try this.
Any time a player finds Executor and fails to use it, the RNG kills a cute dog.

Hoping to win with every class, doomed. Archer, Barbarian, Bard, Beastfighter, Druid, Elementalist, Farmer, Monk, and ULE Priest down.

I'm pretty sure he meant 50k turns, which it looks like he wasn't far off achieving.

Sorry, one extrazero slipped in. Intention was 50k which is "easy" for a spellcaster but I find it challenging enough to a fighter type char.

Comment about axe being waste of space might be now better understood when you think about the turnlimit. You need high PV/DV in short time (->polearm onehander) or so good damage that you do not need protection (e.g. well-trained two-handed weapons+certain silwery two-hander) Rare endgame monsters die with one blow though. I think you already knew all this. That 500k was missleading

This is true. I don't deny it. But call me nuts or maybe I it's my imagination: the times I've played human barbarian I get Vanquisher; with trolls I get Skullcrusher. Could there be a pattern? Perhaps no. Getting skullcrusher with a char named V. Anguis is just my luck

This is so very true. I don't know why stupidity takes over after the dwarven portal. Effects of chaos?

My thoughts exactly in a normal game. But in a "rushtrough" game levels with high numbers of monsters and loot become main playgrounds (big room, vaults, giftshoppe...). And a dragon vault is just too valuable pile of loot to leave untouched. What comes to dropping important stuff beforehand I was balancing between item preservation and survival. Dropped my scrolls and spear of penetration etc. which certainly would have dissolved. Left my cloakofinvis, helmet, herbs, ammo on me to get some protection and edge against the dragons.
No cloak, helmet, spense, ammo afterwards.
I had also yet another example of ADOMs true essence: You have exceptional luck and find Wyrmlance next to a level with dragon vault. You wield the weapon and happily start to whack some dragons untill your rusty gauntlets are dissolved. Then you try to wear another pair of gloves instead and notice you can't cause you can't take the weapon out of your hands. You try to flee back to your scrolls of uncurse and when well-aimed cush of acid dissolves your ring of regeneration. Do! Unbelieveable luck leads in to a momentary collapse of consentration and the consequences are grave.

Thanks for reply and tips though. I'm once again wiser when I have my next battle against chaos and corruption.

Yes, that makes a big difference 50k for a melee is a rather frightful pace. If you're skipping Darkforge and the teleport wand, you may need to get very lucky to pull this off.

Well, Rolf axe + shield is a decent PV/DV combo. Shield is [9,6] and axe is [4,4] with +3 To, and the damage will be decent. Not slaying weapon decent, but probably good enough for most purposes. Have you considered a paladin for this challenge? You get healing, spellcasting abilities, and potential access to the best 1-handed weapon in the game.

Overconfidence, more likely. That and in most games you don't really think about how annoying traps are because you have other ways to deal with them that late in the game.

you gotta lead archmage out of temple area, use him as a cork at the
mouth of your dig-in tunnel, stand out of a straight line with him, and
take him out with poisoned humanoid slayers.
I use polemarms when laying adom.

I tried this with a dwarven barbarian for a change. I was aiming for the "Rolf-duo" but didn't find teleport control or way to teleport in time. I also don't know if you need to be crowned to get the shield but got the L+ state somewhere between banshee and EG.

Paladin would be a nice choice but I think being illiterate dumbass is part of the charm I also think herbalism is a must for fast buffing.
