150 in one round, sure. Depends on speed too, I guess. Either way, you need to have the HP to survive it. Morgia roots is usually enough to deal with that, so it's not usually the most pressing concern.

03:38 <gutt> can kherab take 186 HP's in one round?
03:41 <sorear> gutt: ordinary steel golems can take over 200...
sorear=guy who knows his stuff
Steel golem: 180 hp, 35pv, 5d10+5 sr(100%
sr=shrug resistance, so that should give an indication of how much
fun it would be, taking them out with bolt spells. pain.

Bolting steel golems with lightning bolt must be the dullest, dumbest s**t I've ever done. Pity it was the only option then. I even wen't outside to regain mp faster every time I ran out..
Melee gets my vote for early game. It's nice and fast with the right character. On the other hand meleeing writhing masses with quadrizillion attacks make me very sad. You know its spam enter and arrow key till you cry. So for late game I like big bolts and balls better.
Aside: Yeah, definitely seen steel golems take 150HP from me in one turn before now. And yeah, clearly raiding DF at low levels and trying to obtain a wish at higher levels are different kettles of DF fish.
More on topic: Sorry Dudley, I'm voting archer. I do like wizards, and I don't understand people who say wizards are crap at the start of the game - do some people NOT go straight to BUGVIL and gain 13 levels? I mean, why wouldn't you? Its so fast. Nonetheless, archers. Archers begin the game significantly overpowered compared to everyone else, and as you progress, picking up huge piles of slaying ammo from barbarian attacks as you go, remain significantly overpowered. If it survives, your +1,0 bow will take down everything.
Mindcrafters are also huge amounts of fun.
I didn't know there was a bug village. Is that where all the insect rape porn is produced?
I don't think you can pick up higher than average numbers of slaying ammo stacks from wilderness barbarians - their arrows should be mostly pre-determined drops of regular arrows. You get slaying ammo by random drops. Plenty of it, especially if you have TH. The real appeal of archers is that they can use huge stacks of regular arrows to kill stuff up to ten levels higher than other characters could. Where others run into monsters they have to flee from and die if they can't, archers just shoot them to death. The main challenges they face is a) running out of ammunition or missile weapons to use (this is why high elves are heavily superior archers compared to dark elves in the early game) and b) doppelgangers. Really only doppelganger lords and kings, since regular doppelgangers are killed rather easily enough in melee.

There are always rocks, no matter what race you play. Just let the ants make some for you, then you have a good stack of back up ammo.

Favorite Race Class Combo: Darkling Farmer
Barbarians do for arrows the same things that ants do for rocks. It's extremely efficient for getting regular 1d6 arrows, which is really all you need. You can get a couple hundred arrows in 5 minutes or so.
Barbarians are on average less dangerous than ants IMHO, since archers tend to naturally dodge arrows better than other classes.
Hoping to win with every class, doomed. Archer, Barbarian, Bard, Beastfighter, Druid, Elementalist, Farmer, Fighter, Monk, and ULE Priest down.
Darkforge? Depends. How easy seems to me to depend on your equipment (DV/PV) hit points and weapon.
I'm still waiting for an answer on the necklace of protection from constructs. It seemed like it was taking me 7 to 10 shots on average to kill a steel golem with a level 21 bard using big punch. I had about 260 hp a the start and I never went below 130 through about 15 of them.
> I had about 260 hp a the start and I never went below 130
30 PV will do that for ye
