Default What do you wish for christmas

    Contains spoilers!!

So I come home from work on christmas eve. Decide I'll spend some time playing adom for a change. Roll a hurthling monk since they're so cute and nice. All goes quite well. I get precrowned in UD with staff of the archmage. Could've got something better, but at least it's usefull as a monk, unlike so many other possibilities. I keep playing without any special happening. thundars quests go smoothly, dwarf graveyard and pyramid is a cake and I got some nice herb bushes to farm just below the big room so no need to frustrate myself pacifying it. Quickly get a crowning with stoma and naturally forget to equip the wrapping so the much loved cold immunity thank you very much. I did get the robes of resistance as gift so I'm not too pissed about it.

Then it goes weird. Between farming herbs, eating mint and sniffing some moss I go to dwarftown, identify my stuff, walk to the store and see what I can sell so I won't be burdened... Nothing special.. drop, drop, drop... holy xxx:

A wand of wishing with 5 charges. Never got a wand of wishing before. I'm baffled as to what I should wish for but to start with I get AoLS for khelly, some SLBs (ridiculous when combined with the monk speed, but I'll still leave that quickling queen in the DH alone) and a Girdle of GS (to take care of my constant burden problem; makes hurtling monks somewhat challenging). Then I stash it away with the remaining two charges to the ogre cave.

Well I guess stuff happens and I was bound to find a wand of wishing at some point of my countless adom games. Must be a nice coincidence it's on christmass. Or is it? I resume getting my stats raised when a monster drops a spellbook. I have decent learning thanks to garth and good mana thanks to the staff. I've also raised my literacy and concentration so I figure I'll read it while the herbs grow back. It's just that I never manage to finish reading it, cause random monsters come and disturb me all the time. It's only when I go to starving after just eating a blessed stoma while reading it (being unencumbered and a monk), I suddenly realize what it is. Another one I've never found before. Of course I have no need for it exept to sell it for 78k gold

Must be christmas time. I saved and went to bed thanking the Creator for the nice unexpected christmass presents

Now I'll continue playing. Since I've only finished the game once I'd like to ask some advice on what to use the remaining two wishes. Clearly you can see I'm not going for an ultra ending. I was thinking about rings of ice to help me cope with ToEF but I don't think I absolutely need them since I got the robes. They would be nice in the forge too so I could take my Girdle with me there. Perhaps another AoLS for my own use to save me from that YASD post? Rings/amulets of teleport control (no blink dogs yet)? Previous and Books of Teleport (do I even have a chance of reading them succesfully with a monk (lvl: 16, Le:19, Ma:23, reading and concentration 100 on next level if I so choose)? Rings of invisibility (this is actually a top contender now that I think about it; would help in ToEF and be usefull 'till the end)?

There must be something very uber I could wish for that I just can't think of (phase daggers and emperor moloch to level up quickly is not an option since it would almost definately lead to YASD either by the molochs or afterwards when I feel invincible and do something recless).

You should already own a spellbook of Teleport for saving Khelly. Girdle of giant strength was kind of a waste, but if you have lots of dragon slaying, yeah sure you can wish for rings of ice. I'm a fan of the "If you don't know what to use it on, stash it" school of thought in any case, and I don't really see anything desirable enough not to keep at least one wish in your pack. I personally would not wish for teleport control items, but then it IS strange not to have found any blink dogs. Remember that controlled teleport doesn't particularly help in the tower except with getting to the top. So does invisibility, and if you don't own a ring of that already, wishing for them would actually help you more than controlled teleport. I would not recommend THAT either because you should own potions of invisibility already. It's always easiest to answer wishing questions with a logfile. For instance, more important to judge your Towerkilling ability than your level is your HP score and the presence of certain items. If on top of your GoGS you also had dragon slaying ammo plus potions of confusion/blindness/cursed invisibility or even a wand of para ("wands of paralyzation", by the way, is one of the best wishes I can think of in anticipation of a boss fight, you might want to consider that too! If there's a candidate for an uber wish you didn't think of, that would be it).

I never actually wear AoLSes because the blasted things get destroyed very easily, and it's easy not to realize it and then die. I most definitely wouldn't wish for one except Khellys, which is worth six SoCR and a spellbook of Teleport after all.
ADOM Guides - whatever you wanted to know about playing a certain class, but have been afraid to ask!

Check out my youtube channel to see my ADOM videos, including a completed playthrough of the game. I try to give instructions, so if you want to see some place you haven't been before and get some hints on how to deal with it, this might help! There's also some other games featured there that you might find interesting.

It's so rare for me to save khelly that I didn't remember it gives teleport book. Read it without problems for over 600 castings. Used one of the wishes for teleport control rings figuring the RNG must do something nasty to me. Anyways ToEF wasn't too hard. Potion of blindness+slaying ammo does wonders. I did lose some non-essential items since my fireproof blanked burned as I was killing the wyrm, but this is where teleport control helped avoid most of the damage. Now the char has passed casino (nothing special there, only some nice slaying ammo, invisibility ring and amulet of petrification resistance that I was missing). Still have the wand with one wish remaining (and no idea what to use it on, have two wands of paralyzation). There's nothing really I seem to be missing that I can think of.

GoGS is actually really nice since it gives me such a nice damage boost. The char with his current equipment (quicksilver staff ftw) has 155 speed, uses 375 energy to walk, has 74 DV while very agressive and 45 PV. He does on average 53 points of damage. Oh and he's only lvl 22 hurtling. Must be easily the strongest char I've had at this lvl (I don't play trolls). Now I'm just waiting for that deathray to finish me off...

Went ahead and won. Won't bother with YAVP since it wasn't really special other than the wishes. Didn't even feel very satisfactory since the char was so overpovered by the end. Meleed everything but the ghosts in d:50 and only required healing once when fighting fisty.

Did find a ring of djinni summoning near the end so I had two wishes in d50 that I used for speed. Seemed like as good as any since I already was lvl 50 and overpovered after a greater fire vault and a tension room of great blue wyrms (both on d:45, corruption was an issue after clearing these, so I took a trip to see the unicron). First time ever I got the cat ring. Speed with equipment was over 200 by the end. I seem to remember claiming I had won only once before this. Actually that was two times, so this is the third. I've now won with gnome bard, dwarven barbarian and hurtling monk. I think I'll start going for special endings now.

Next time you get a wish with a monk, consider "magical writing sets". Monks can write any scroll they like without losing stats. I like leaving the chain corruption free, and with this wish it is easy to do that, even without seeing the unicorn. Having extra scrolls of education or magic mapping is nifty, too.

If you really haven't got a use for your wishes in the endgame, how about doing the tiny girl a favour? I assume you didn't do that in the beginning (if you did, props on you for pulling it off with this r/c).
You steal a scroll labelled HITME. The orc hits you.
