Default The Weakest Link '09: League of Mana

    Greetings adventurers,

Welcome to the League of Mana.......

You have been chosen to plumb the depths of infinity, to amuse the Lord of Corruption with your deaths; however sad and pathetic they may be. All that one can ask is that you do your best, for in the end, it will not be good enough anyway. Stand true, be brave and conquer your fears....

And when the Chaos Gate opens......change your underwear...

So here we are, the League of Mana over which I (the current Lord of Corruption) shall rule. Have fun, if you get stuck or need help with anything then just post a message here or send me a message. And most of all.......good luck!!

    YOUR HISTORY:
Your mother was a wise shaman and healer. You didn't know your
father and his origins seem to be very mysterious.
As a child you were not accepted by the other children of your
tribe. Your childhood was sad and lonely.
In your youth you strived very hard to become the best warrior in
your tribe. You watched, learned and became very strong and nimble.
As a young adult you more and more separated from the more
traditional members of your tribe. Your desire to see the outside world

Brief summary of the general rules:
    * descend at least one level during your round
    * no use of the up stairs (the one exception being if there's an impassable river - then you can quickly <>)
    * do not exceed the turn limit of 2000 by more than 50 - try not to exceed it at all! (the tactical display will be changed to show number of moves instead of speed)
    * give a post describing your activities after your round, including important info like using up prayers, items found and monsters encountered that could affect future players
    * you have 72 hours to play when it comes to your turn - this can be extended to one week if you have special circumstances
    * no competitive hindering tactics allowed during the first 2 rounds
    * any and all competitive and dirty tactics allowed on round 3 or after, though you must still report your activities in full
    * if you make a situation too difficult and everyone dies then the save will return to you - if you can't survive your own situation then you're out and everyone else restarts from before your turn; so be careful not to overdo it with the chaos tactics
    * lastly, have fun - this game relies mostly on luck, with a little bit of skill; try to enjoy it and don't take things too seriously

These rules are not strictly enforced - they mostly rely on faith in the player, just as we have faith that people posting YAVPs haven't save-scummed. If you break the rules in any way and then lie about it, then the only loser is you.

Good weapon, good stats, good PV. Sword birthsign gives our spear a nice boost. Backstabbing + find weakness + sealth can be decent combination :-)

Too bad there's no literacy and herbalism is useless.

If we have swimming, then do the river rule apply?

Yes, the river rule will apply.

Generally, I'm going to let good common sense rule here. If the stairs are on the same side - no problem. If they are on the other side, you've got one of two scenarios.

    A) The river is very wide all across the level - 4/5/6 squares with no means of getting across. Basically, you're screwed if you swim. Then yes, go restart the level - following the rule of - stopping only to kill monsters in your way - not picking up items

    B) The river is wide but has areas of 1/2 spaces where you can cross. It's your discretion here. To be honest, the barbarian should be gaining HP fast enough to be able to survive a 1 or 2 tile river. I'd say depending on the level of the character, such a river is do-able.

As for literacy - just pray for the dark sages.

If we want to stay alive for longer than just starting, maybe we should consider taking Good Learner talent? In neighbouring league there's a weakling already at level 11. We have 1.5 times more experience demands than this midget and it can turn out we'll end up killed way before her.

It doesn't matter how high level we get compared to any other league - all that matters is who survives the longest in this league. If someone who gets to choose a talent decides that Good Learner is the best way to survive, that's at their discretion, but we shouldn't get it just because another league is leveling quickly.

Re: PeanutGod - For complete fairness, I'd instead suggest that if the "Your hear the sound of rushing water!" (pay attention to exclamation mark) or the river itself is noticed, regenerate the level immediately. Maybe I'm a bit late with this, but I still think that would be the best method.

Am pretty sure we all agreed back in the rules thread that if you can safely cross river, or if you don't need to cross the river, then you should avoid regenerating the level... For PCs with swimming skill, crossing rivers should really not be a big deal

"Safely" is the key word. Our barbarian doesn't have healing which means he will be able to to "safely" cross 2-tiled river, and until he gets Swimming at 100, then bigger river will be safe to cross. There's matter of rusting also (scroll drenching is not an issue here). So I think kind of "common sence" is needed here.
