At any rate though it seems logical to me that they might be abusable for free Strength training. I mean...the HMV isn't exactly an underground dungeon with anything that could collapse on you right?
That's an interesting thought. It would be worth while testing it. Not having a risk of a collapse would be a safe way to abuse strength.

If this works, shouldn't it work at all the other "wilderness" stairs, too?

That is, the graveyard and the bug village?

I don't think it can go above 20.
Hoping to win with every class, doomed. Archer, Barbarian, Bard, Beastfighter, Druid, Elementalist, Farmer, Fighter, Monk, and ULE Priest down.

    From the guidebook:

kicking stairs trains St a lot (+20), but beware of stairs collapse (St/2000 chance)

    I don't think it has a limit.

    ok decided to test this.

    14 Str

Took less then 20 kicks for the HMV stair to collapse

Jinx Ultra, the dark elven wizard, was crushed by a collapsing dungeon.

    So much for that idea

Seeing as you can't kick stairs from the top of the staircase, you'd have to go down at least one step. Apparently, ADOM staircases are only attached at the top. Once you break the top loose, the whole mess colapses under you.
You hear the cries of the crowd: "Freebird!! Freebird!! Freebird!!"

Well darn, I guess I was getting unseasonably lucky.

Assuming that figure of having stairs to collapse (St/2000) is correct then with your strength of 14 and 60 kicks the probability to collapse the stairs was only 1 - (1 - 14/2000)^60 = 0.344 = 34.4%. So not even exceptionally lucky, in fact it would have been less probable to have them to collapse than not.
