Default YAVP iLEET High Elven Monk

(I'll get around to explain my "iLEET" later, also, 300k turns, so for those of you who like long stories, buckle in. Otherwise just skip down to the 2nd post where I'm going through the infinite dungeon.)

My game started off rather lovely, after much effort (rerolling many times to get a desirable start, in my case i was looking for raven, decent strength (and other stats), and iron crown of havlor as my eventual crowning gift).
I followed my usual route of SMC>UD>HMV>CoC>dwarftown. Things of note along the way were 3 carrot rooms (which I had pots for), 2 magic writing sets with 5-6 charges, a pool that loved me (a wish for AoLS, teleportitis/tele control, death ray resist), a big room with 1 natural herb square that got destroyed by vortex >_<, elven chain mail, girdle of carrying, and some potions of exchange.
The 3 carrot rooms gave me about 35 perception, my dex was about 25, and everything else give or take 15ish, so i crossed my fingers and drank those pots of exchange and ended up with my dex left alone and 35 on.... strength! As a monk who'd never again have to worry about being burdened, I was a happy camper. Sadly, "Slay a green blob to prove your valor", which I gave up on quickly, but there was a neutral altar up above in the CoC which I used to get to neutral for the dwarven mystic, and got the SoCR package from him, and stored my important stuff in his room.
So, out of the CoC I went to do the terinyo quests (went with herbalism), dwarven graveyard, and pyramid. Finished those at level 14, and a ring of the fish, with which I went to find my underwater dragon so as to get the rune covered trident soon, looked over all the treasure and there was nothing worthwhile.
Back into the CoC, stopping at the dwarf town to pick up AoLS and the writing sets, which I used to make scrolls of defense for a very nice total DV bonuses. Got up to level 16 for my trident then saved khelly (and put the scrolls/spellbook in storage), and proceeded down through the CoC. Went as far as I could go, skipping water temple on the way down, and then getting it on my way back up. Found a RoDS at some point that I used for 7lb's, and headed out of the CoC again, this time to loot darkforge, hit up the tomb of high kings, and ToEF.
Those all went smoothly enough, got wyrmlance from DF, and back to CoC for my main dive. Casino generated Long Sting and Emerald Bite, as well as a bunch of other random goodies that I *bought*, and a few floors later there was an altar, so I crowned myself and got =Fire and my Iron Crown of Havlor. Also, I had killed off my green blob, so I went back to do the Thrundarr quests. By this time I'm feeling pretty well invincible, and for the most part am pretty well invincible, so I took the shortcut out of darkforge to pay a visit to the assassin prince and pick up Twin #1, then came back and dove down the rest of the way, skipping temples for now.
Came accross 2 less fire vaults and one fire dragon greater vault (wyrmlance+fire immunity=win). At some point along the way I got ring of immunity, which I put beside my RotMC and never paid a second thought to for the rest of the game. Got to the UL and hurried my way to Sharaad and the blue dragon caves. Scrolls of magic mapping+teleport spell got me to the bottom quick, where I zapped a monster detection, ported next to blue dragon dude, read two scrolls of familiar summoning (cause as tanky as I was, he woulda ripped me apart sooooo fast) that popped out two greater earth elementals that I let tank the dragon while I ripped him apart with wyrmlance. Got back up, identified my pile of loot, and put on my twins. I went back to the dragon caves to train my daggers up to about 10, and hopefully get some loot (some gain attribute pots, one RoDS, and a wand of wishing 3).
5 wishes was a pretty big deal, do I load up on even more strength, make up for my low toughness, get all the good items I could want? In the end, I decided on potions of quickling blood. 5 wishes netted me 3-4 each, each of the pots averaging about 4 speed, for a total of a permanent +60ish speed, which with my raven, athletics, high dex, and rotmc bumped me up to about 220-230 base speed, and 7lb+monk movement meant I could even run circles around quicklings. So I went and finished off the temples and made my descent to D:50 at level 30 for a normal kill-everything and handle levers ending.
At D:49 my PoU gave me Ironfist, which I didnt want, so I used my save scum to get Bracers of War instead. (I regularly copy my save file in case of a crash, or when I want to try doing something realllllllly stupid, but dont hate me for it!). Really, don't hate me for it, after about 40 tosses of PoU and no BoW, I checked my artifacts list and it was already generated somewhere! So I kept reloading until I got Ironfist again (see, like nothing even happened), and proceeded to my easy D:50 normal ending.

And that's the story of my early game, I came out of D:50 at level 44, strength about 50, dex base of 40, other stats around 30, DV over 100 when dual-wielding twins on aggressive tactics, and afraid of absolutely nothing. Normally here's where I copy my save and then walk out of drakalor chain, but I had other plans for this High Elven Monk.

I kicked it off with killing yrruir and getting 6 pots of gain attributes (and keeping my crowning!), and two corruptions (healing tissue and one of the lightness ones). So I found some place to make a corruption trap and after about 7 SoCR of self-corrupting I got my other lightness corruption. So I hit up the quickling tree, got about 20 speed out of that, putting me at 250ish, I went to the rift and library for the first time ever, where got some spellbooks and a weird tome I exchanged for more SoCRs. Then to Claw bug temple and looted the statues.
And then I went on a hunt for those shining silver bracers I *technically* wasnt supposed to know existed. I dove through the entire CoC again, checked every item in the casino shop, went through the blue dragon caves again and killed everything that was alive at the time, but they werent to be found. So I went to the tomb of high kings, the tower of eternal flame, darkforge again, dwarven graveyard, everywhere I could think of. So after sitting in front of my computer for 10 minutes just scratching my head, I checked out the underwater treasure horde again, and lo and behold, shining silver bracers! Killed the dragon, got my loot, and then made my way to the infinite dungeon to try to get some more carrot rooms for a high PE i could potion of exchange into something else.
Was lolligagging along, killing stuff as I came to it, drinking various potions, even got a few carrot rooms. At about I:40, I remember the guidebook saying that the ID has to be limited by some 32 or 64 bit integer, but anything over I:200 is rediculously dangerous so it doesnt matter. This is when I decide to find out how deep the ID goes, and so beings my end-game.

I:40-I:200. Made it to the SIL no problem and killed malachi with ease, left the sceptre there cause I didnt feel like getting corrupted, and I sure wasnt leaving the ID. I get to I:200 certainly well off, level 50 by then, and a few potions of stat picked up along the way. I check my inventory again and see I've picked up 2 amulets of life saving which I bless and put on, the girdle of giant str+14 and gauntlets of str+6 both of which I scroll of defense/protection on, and an RoDJ and another wand of wishing (2)!. Well, my speed is already at 250ish, and my stats are quite comfortable, so I wish for some phase daggers, I only had one at that point, and more pots of quickling blood, (280 speed).
I:200-I:300. I find out that a doppleganger king of an awesome PC will very quickly kill said awesome PC, that was my first AoLS saved my life, all doppleganger kings from this point on are taken out by magic. I come accross my first Greater Titan tension room and have a bit of a tough time, they're quicker than molochs and I ran out of room to kite, so I had to trade blows with a few.
I:300-I:400. Nothing spectacular here, I've used up all my stomafilia and most of my real food, had to pray a few times for satiation cause I didnt want to use pots just yet. Found a RoDJ and wished for food preservation, so that wasnt an issue afterwards. At about 350 I come accross a tension room of quickling queens. By now they're starting to hit hard and I cant kite them, so I pop all my speed pots and relevant boost stat pots and go to town. It takes about 15 !EH/!UH to kill them all, but I did it, and that's about the hardest thing I've had to do all game. Eating corpses puts speed up to 300ish.
I:400-500. Picked up a 3rd AoLS, I can still trade blows with most of the normal monsters, but have started kiting the stronger monsters (Ancient Dragon difficulty and up). All the while in here getting the occaisonal potion of stat or potion of gain attribute.
I:500-600. So I walk up to a dark green capital F, decide to give it a whack, it turns out it's a gorgon and just used petrification breath on me. There goes AoLS #2,
I:600-700. Not sure how long this place goes on... I know it says infinite, but cmon, really? Well, I try to teleport to a location that's already taken, so I get dumped in the middle of a dark room. I cast light and see that I'm in the middle of a tension room full of a bunch of angry Titans, there goes AoLS #3, I'm all out of em now. On the plus side, I find a wand of wishing 5, and more quickling bloods gets me up to 370ish speed, I can now match steps with quickling kings and queens and easily kite everything else.
I:700-800. Started ignoring a lot of the higher difficulty monsters, carrot rooms have put my PE up to pretty high, so I do some potion of exchanges to move my stats around again. End up at 70 dex, 60 str, 40-50 for the rest (base stats, im getting about +20 more to both str and dex), which I'm happy with. I also pick up a moloch armor, which I use scrolls of defense on to get it's DV positive, although it's still not worth the loss of monk bonus DV or speed, especially when by now most hits are critting and bypassing PV anyways, but seeing both PV and DV over 100 while pumping out two attacks of over 100 each round at 380 speed makes me feel pretty boss.
I:800-I:900. Not able to kill nearly as much so food is getting tight, swapping out twins for phase daggers when I need to drop below 4 artifacts to cut food consumption from 1.5 to 0.5.
I:900-I:1024. Are we there yet, is it over? No.... the game didnt crash at 1024 (32^2), there's still more of the ID to go, getting here was rough enough, I dont really want to try for 4096 (64^2). I'm also starting to get owned by kobolds pretty hard. Gonna go to coward and put on defensive gear (DV over 300, woo!), use invis and teleport very liberally, and just make a run for the next major breakpoint.
I:1024-I:1100. Quickling queen tension room? Yeah that was okay at I:300ish, it's not gonna fly here, *teleports to up stairs and resets the level*.
I:1100-I:1200. Good think monks have higher generation rate of rations and such, or I'd be getting desperate, I loaded well over a million gold into my altar before coming and I'm all dried up on piety.
    I:1200-I:1300. *droolface*
I:1300-I:1336. You see where this is going now, yes?
I:1337. yeah, I ['m so] LEET! *quits game and makes a YAVP post, cause this is TOTALLY a victory in my books*

EDIT: did I mention I did the entire ID dive in one sitting, without sleep, I lost track of time at about 8 hours. =D

Didn't knew that dying afeter closing the gate was considered a winning but in that case I must post my character who died from hands of greater moloch after closing a gate

    Nice character by the way

I:1337 is pretty impressive. Nice job! Especially for a non-caster class (Immortal necros are normally the preferred choice for this sort of expedition).

As far as depth goes, I seem to remember that it was shown that the ID caps out at about I:4million. If you descend again at that point, you go back to I:1. I don't recall exactly how this was tested though, TBH.
Hoping to win with every class, doomed. Archer, Barbarian, Bard, Beastfighter, Druid, Elementalist, Farmer, Fighter, Monk, and ULE Priest down.

Congratulations on this win! The Infinite Dungeon has always fascinated me, and it seems others like it as well!

I thought an AoLS wouldn't save you from petrification? Or did it just punch you to death?

The following information is spoily, so I'm hiding it for those who don't want to read it. Highlight the text if that's not you.
About how deep the ID goes, trust me, it's a lot deeper than I1337 or I4096 I once used a cheat program to take myself 10000 levels below ground - just for fun of course, that's not a PC I'd post a YAVP with.

When you're below level 9999, the counter at the bottom of the screen says "I?", and absolutely anything can one-hit you even with a outrageously hacked character. Quick observations made using a blessed stethoscope seem to suggest monsters get a level bonus of +(IDLevel/10). When you're deep enough, they gain so many levels (and therefore, extra DV, PV, damage and attacks per round) even rats will slaughter you. Beefed-up mooks do not however gain any intrinsics they don't naturally have, so invisibility and Death Ray will suddenly look very useful.

Since the overburdened stairs bug allows the current ID level to be negative, I believe the upper bound is the classic ~2.1 billion (signed 32-bit integer) that also applies to gold and other integers in ADOM. Using my cheat program to go to there made the game crash, though.

I didnt die!! I "quit the game prematurely... on level 1337 of some ancient caves.", but yeah, the game treats the act of closing the gate as a the win, as that is the main you-just-saved-the-world point of the game, although to me, the leaving of the drakalor chain (where you get the final history of your PC) as the actual "the end" win of the game.

And thanks, I gotta say that even before the ID dive, I put as much experience, preparation, and effort into this PC as I could, and it definitely payed off (and all the lucky finds were a nice plus).

Thanks! I'd take a monk with twins over a bonafied caster any day (this is my 3rd, the others were a drakeling that won (my first serious drakeling, the speed mechanics intrigued me so I had to make one) and another high elf that died on mana temple cause I forgot death ray resist). Even without all the wishes for quickling bloods monks have high enough speed and naturally reduced movement cost that lets them safely poke and run from just about anything, and they still get more than enough spellcasts and mana to effectively use any spells they need.

It was definitely the petrification breath, I dont remember the exact text but it generated the message of the gorgon breathing on me, me dying, and the amulet glowing and turning to ash as a I got brought back to life. It was the first gorgon I've encountered so I definitely payed attention to what killed me, I dont remember seeing anything about a melee hit (although I was starting to get sleepy at the time), and at I:600 I was still only getting hit by titans and molochs for about 300-400, so a gorgan melee from full health wouldnt have killed me. I also wore an amulet of petrification resist for the next 300 floors or so, without seeing a single gorgon again, but after "dying" from something avoidable you can never be too cautious, haha.

I second that, hence I don't consider my first and last (so far) victory to be "complete", since my PC hasn't gone back home. Nonetheless I was happy to attain it, after so many years, and since ADOM 1.2.0 is on the works I have even more reasons to reach a second win. I could just load the savegame and exit the chain, but since he's a crowned chaotic, it's not going to be a happy ending. And I'd rather keep my PC and be able to play tourist

Anyway, did you make a backup of the SVG before quitting? I definitely would, a PC like this shouldn't be lost forever.

That's interesting. The ADOM wiki gives petrification as an instance of what an amulet won't save you from, and that made sense to me (since you're now a lifeless statue with no life to save). I have to test this now!

I also recall reading, don't remember if here, Brinkster or Usenet, that an AoLS will also save you from being eaten by a grue if you fumble in the dark while doomed. I think such behavior is either a bug, or should be given separate messages when the amulet's effect kicks in.

I definitely did make a backup, or three. Sadly, no pre-ID backup, so it's gonna be a long journey if I plan to leave the drakalor chain.

Did another test, the message log from the round I 'died' shows:
The gorgon misses you. The gorgon misses you. The gorgon misses you. The gorgon misses you. The gorgon breathes petrification gas at you! You petrify! You die... Your amulet suddenly glows in a silvery light. You have been resurrected! Your amulet crumples to dust!
This game likes exclamation points for anything out of the ordinary, it seems. But yes, AoLS definitely saved me from petrification, I am running ADOM 1.1.1 with no mods/bug fixers.

    Also, from grue:
Oh, no! You have walked into the slavering fangs of a lurking grue! You die... You suddenly feel your body again. You have been resurrected! Your amulet crumples to dust!
It seems the "suddenly feel your body again" message is for any AoLS save in the dark.
