Default First Challenge Game- Atheist Priest

So I felt like doing an atheist challenge game (deny the gods, no altars, no praying, no holy water), and the following implications came to mind:
No free emergency healing/food/mana/uncursing, or lucky/fate smiles
    No crowning immunity/gifts
    No free status identification
No blessing items that defffffffinitely should be blessed.

Oddly enough, the solution to the major issues was to be a priest. Very quickly reaching 100 in detect item status, and in my experience priests always start the game with at least one healing spellbook. The reduced mana cost also helped with my not-unlimited mana supply, and made casting from HP (which I did quite often) hurt less. Of course, being a piety-less priest meant I couldnt use any of my anti-undead class powers, but finding (i think starting with, I dont remember) an early spellbook of dispel undead helped a lot in that category.

So.... dark elven priest, thankfully decked out in some decent gear, started with a healing spell, descended through the small caves to start. While in the SMC, I ran into an adamantium broadsword of mayhem (+4, 3d7+12), which was my very good friend for most of the game. Had a fairly uneventful early game, herb squares in the UD gave me a good supply of spenseweed, and morgia/marelion, blink dog corpse for tele control. D:3 and D:4 both contained rivers, and I didnt have a frost spell yet, so there were some tense almost-drowning moments going down and coming up (used my !UH and 3 !EH's to survive crossing the rivers).
Did my first 3 quests from thrundarr (slay lizard man, easy enough, and went through DH), then made my way back up and out of CoC. Headed east to do graveyard and terinyo quests at level 13, used the amulet of order from twyatt pare to get my alignment to barely neutral for a stethoscope from jharod. Went to clear the pyramid, a dorn beast on the top floor nearly ended my career, went smoothly other than that. Did the tomb of high kings and got my ring, then dove back into the CoC.
Worked my way down to the wall of flames, was around level 20ish and feeling pretty good about ToEF, so I made my way up and went to go do that, noteable things coming out of the CoC were the tele spell, a book of wish (which I promptly read to oblivion for a hefty +9 learning) 7LB, and an amulet of water breathing. A quick stop to loot darkforge yielded Nature's Companion (fire immunity and a speed boost? i approve!), an eternium 2h sword, phase dagger, and staff of archmagi. ToEF went fairly smoothly, lots of casting frost bolt from HP, and had heal once from my water orb (I didnt bring enough spenseweeds), but no real tense moments. After that I went to go look at the the underwater lair to see if the pile of loot had anything interesting. Blessed !gain attributes, ring of elemental mastery, and a few other nice things convinced me to loot it and the tele away (no way I was killing the dragon at this point)
So I then proceeded with my final dive into the CoC, talking to the dwarven mystic (as a neutral, thank youuuuu amulet of order) and was lucky enough to receive 4 SoCR. No artifacts in Casino, I did pick up some scrolls of identify and other useful-looking things (i dont think I ended up using most of what i bought, though). Air temple went down easy. Cat lord didnt like me (apparently I had accidentally killed a cat earlier), but with a water orb heal I took him out without too much difficulty. Earth temple was a bit annoying, I ended up switching to my phase dagger and luring the elementals/grues off the level one or two at at time until they were cleared, then took out the ancient stone beast.
Mana temple was frustrating, the chaos servants got very experienced and quite dangerous, I used up my stock of pepper petals/spenseweeds and had to use about 6 water orb heals, and meleeing the archamge with my eternium 2HS on berserk was murder on my stats, but I had a wand of destruction so I didnt worry too much about it. After the archmage went down I put the orbs in their rifts, didnt have a potion of uselessness for the free artifact, and went down to D:50 where I tunneled in the sides, teleported away most of the foes, handeled levers, and zapped the wand of destruction (after using SoCR's 3 times to get rid of a *very* persistent mana battery, the 4th had already been used on stiff muscles), then left.
Teleported my way out of the CoC, tried to do Yrruir quest for the corruption cleanse and bright future, but forgot I was chaotic again, so just left the drakalor chain as an Atheist Dark Elven Priest.

living in average quarters. Your father is a craftsman of mediocre talent.
As a child you lived through happy days. Your parents tried to ease
your life as much as possible and gave you a lot of comfort.
In your youth you worked a lot to become rich and famous later.
Consequently you rarely had enough time to play with other kids of your

Congratulations on this win. This would be challenging for me, considering I use prayers relatively often - mostly to save my life in the early game, and to get free HP and PP full refills later (I don't use the water orb). When you're a Candle-born, and later crowned, the costs don't go up that much.

Anyway, you mentioned "no holy water" in your post. How is that achieved? Say you pick up a potion of water and it was blessed - is the game forfeit then? Or you simply don't pick water up at all?

I tend to pray fairly often too, usually for the same reasons (and sometimes for food too, cause I dont usually buy at the ratling traders). For some reason, priests start out with some nice gear, and for early game, candle and healing skill took care of me quite well, with healing spells (cure serious) and herbs for my emergency heals. Later on I used spells/herbs to heal between fights, and the water orb for emergencies, and tried to avoid wasting time while deep in the CoC so my corruption wouldnt get too high.

The way I looked at it was if an atheist walks into a church and is offered a sip of some of the "blood of jesus", it's just a glass of wine to him, and if he's not drinking it anyways, then it doesnt really matter what it's called. As far as the holy water thing, I never used any, for blessing items or making herbs, which lead to some sad 7 league boots, potions of gain attributes/potions of stat, and most of my scrolls were sad too (only being able to uncurse one thing at a time makes you really think about what's worth it). Having detect item status meant that I could see if water was blessed or not, and I left any blessed potions of water on the ground, the same way that I would walk by (but not on!) altars as if they didnt exist (cause it is impossible to have a game without any altars generated).

I might use a prayer for food during my trademark early-game ID raiding, but most of the time, I find enough to survive. I also abuse Strength of Atlas a lot. By level 20 I'll have around 5000s of large rations, plus stomafillia from herb bushes in the Big Room and UD that I pick to death, since I don't farm herbs. Those usually lasts me all the game

I see. Thanks for the clarification!

Nice one. I love the irony in atheist priest.

How did you become chaotic in the end?
You steal a scroll labelled HITME. The orc hits you.

Was using cursed + blessed Scroll of Repair to bless items counted as forbidden or you simply didn't try it? This could ease a challenge a bit.
