    Default Epic failure

    Decided to play a Drakeling Barbarian for a change. Started with epic ~25 strength and 30 toughness or so. Early game went smooth, bashing anything in sight to death easily. Quickly did all Dwarven quests, cleared graveyard while pickpocketing them a bit (getting like 900 gold sometimes there.. I doubled my gold or so). Cleared pyramid using the fireball wand for the mummies. Tried to get to the water temple but Khelavaster was blocking the way and I didn't have an amulet so decided to get the RotHK first. Got a wand of cold so acquiring it was easy (when kicking the door the Skeleton king behind it got hit by the trap.. is that normal? He was confused while I beat him to death quickly). Used a spear+shield up to this point, but somewhere here I got a nice eternium twohander (and 7LB) which I used for massive damage since HP were no problem so far. Raided Darkforge and got very nice Robes of Resistance there. Got crowned with Grod, which I thought was pretty sucky (lower damage than the sword and massive DV drop) but actually became pretty useful.
    Went to the ToEF, got some problems with HP for the first time there because I couldn't find stairs quickly. Ducked out one time to regenerate a bit before diving to the top again. Used invisibility, dragged out the ACW and used two potions of confusion, two potions of poison and a potions of sickness on him (does that have any effect?) on him while hacking him into pieces. Quickly went out again. Went straight into the CoC. My character was here about level 20 with ~42 strength and ~45 toughness (+5 from robes, +4 from bracers). My other stats were around 10 (only herbs I found were morgia so my Dex sucked). It's only weakness was darkness: I hadn't found a single light source so far (except scrolls of light....)

    Here I started being careless, diving straight for D50. Let Khelly die, cleared water temple by simply bumping into everyone alive. I really started feeling like a barbarian. Got a surge of power around D30: a named doppleganger king was a pretty nasty defender of the ring of immunity. Luckily I could simply sacrifice him on a nearby altar. Around D35 I got a huge vault with Giant-likes. Cleared the whole thing with Grod, gaining the awesome Ironfist Gauntlets, Wyrmlance (handy) and the absolutely useless hammer of the gods.
    Air temple was very nice because Yulgash summoned a bunch of Balors. Here I found out that Grod crits balors, which was nice to know and gave yummy exp. Because of my massive hp, simple healing means (spenseweed and petals) I didn't bother too much about getting hit which started getting me corruptions, notably the mana battery one. I was careful enough to drop my weaker equipment outside the temple before killing all monsters inside, but I did drain all my wands accidentally in this action. Cat Lord got killed with potions of confusion + bashing. Tried to find a amulet of deathray-resistance in the casino but nothing to be found there. I did buy a torch though which became pretty useful in the mana temple. Went on to the earth temple: never had an easier time there. Didn't have to use stairs to bash the grues and elementals down. Stone beast also got hacked to pieces without any trouble. Accidentally ate his corpse because of pushing 'e' instead of 'd' (to drop him).
    On to the mana temple. Didn't have proper trap detection items/skill, so I just ran through all traps. Although I did have two sources of confusion resistance (helmet and ring) Nuurag-Vaarn confused me alot. Wearing mummywrapping + torch I took him out with another potion of confusion (don't know how I got so many) + meleeing. But that archmage was almost tougher than the Stone Beast!

    On to D50. Got Purifier on D49, which was useless because the damage sucked and maces were untrained. On D50 I got caught by a quickling and an earth elemental while at 10 speed, but they were nice enough to start attacking eachother. The elemental won while I drank some potions of boost speed and started wrenching wands of fire. Trained about 5 points of dexterity with mareillon moss which I found a few levels back while waiting for speed to catch up. Cleared the middle part of D50 without much trouble apart from having to wear a crown of regeneration now and then. Went for the corridors to the handles to clear the balors one by one. That went pretty easy, taking them down one by one in melee, gaining levels in the process. Finally Fistanarius teleported to the handlers. About to kill him in 5 hits and close the gate for the last time, I turn into a chaos being due to background corruption. Pretty epic failure really.

    Couldn't have done anything about it though: didn't encounter a single SoCR or PoCC the whole game. Didn't get any guaranteed ones either due to lack of either teleportation means (at the start) or control (after pool sipping). I guess accidentally eating the Stone Beast was a bad idea.

    Corruption isn't usually a huge issue in gatecloser victories, but you can't be totally nonchalant about it either, as this game is an excellent demonstration.

    Yeah, I never really expected corruption to become a problem. Just wanted to close the gate asap and then clear my corruptions all at once so I didn't bother much to avoid getting it. This game was really fast since I started this morning and planned to finish it before dinner when I saw how good things went :P

    Two pretty stupid things in the game were finding an amulet of life saving some levels below Khelavaster and finding two book shops. I never find shops in the dungeon and I never ever find book shops in dungeon and now I find two while being a barbarian

    Did you not show your scrolls in your .flg because you had 6 SoCR in your pack and are embarrassed to admit it?

    Lol no but I got tired of cutting the .flg into pieces so I deleted alot of crap (food and tools also).
