    Default First Ultra! ULE Drakeling Monk

    Started off in bandit town and killed a mugger first. Went to SMC and easily found the stairs, but not the blanket. Found a neutral altar in the UD so I precrowned twice after a long grind. Got Soaker (not bad for a level 10) and Hammerhead for the second (TO boast and some intrinsics were nice). A pool gave me petrification and stun resistance plus see invis. I don't push my luck and drink from any more pools Then found a 'AoLS at the bottom of the UD so I figured why not try for an ultra.

    DD was pretty boring. Puppy cave was likewise uninteresting. Bookshop on D9 was diggable. Kick robbed up some books and decent amount of cash. Unfortunately too many artifacts at this point to be able to precrown a 3rd time. D10 gave me a herbs so didn't bother pacifying big room. D11 was dwarf town. Pretty trivial quest for my first kill, but can't recall what it was. Hit up the pyramid because I was level 16 by this point. Darkforge got me an eternium 2hand sword, but nothing with a good ego. Hit up graveyard and convert to C on the corpse drops. I hit up the gremlin cave for the last of the ratling fodder.

    I equip the CoS and it doesn't take long to find a boar. First kill gets me my skull so I stash it in HMV. Feed the ratling Moonsickle, big punch, nonnak, phial, CoS, and torc. Then move up and clear the water temple. I head back down and turn in everything to the crone, but it seems I haven't found the wand yet. ID stair hop one after a while. Did find a pair of !PoGA.

    I hit up ToEF and easily kill ACW (300 speed FTW!) Then I finish my topside adventures with the =RotHK and Stone Circle. Potions of Confusion make the Keriax a cinch.

    Dive down to the casino and didn't really find anything interesting. Did find a scroll shop that gave me a scroll of education, but nothing else worthwhile. Casino had no good weapons or armor, but did have a few nice potions and some writing sets. I write up some scrolls of education and get Archery plus some crap skills like mining. On the level with the shortcut back to the surface I do find a greater giant vault. I find hammer of gods (meh) and Executor!

    At this point I figure I should probably get ready to convert back to L before it gets too hard. I want courage first so I slaughter endless beggars and outlaws to get my 20 more muggers. With my kills done it's time to convert back to neutral. I turn in puppy quest and head to water dragon cave for another lawful quest finish. Then do the sheriff's quest and unicorn's quest. However I'm still C- so I guess it didn't really help much. Head to dwarf town and carefully convert back to N by sacrificing 10 gold at a time. I consider crowning, but I'm running a little low on ?SoRC so I hold off.

    Penultimate dive into the dungeon gets me a few useful corruptions. Earth and Air temples fall. Air was a little dicy when I had a group of liches summoned. However thankfully my monk switch places ability lets me get in and out with 300hp to spare. Find a river running through a lesser vault of black dragons shortly before UC split, but it doesn't give me anything. UC was pretty uneventful. BDC is pretty easy as a monk. Don't have to worry about item destruction when you don't need your armor and are lightning immune. AKW's loot pile gives me a ring of weakness . I grab it and one of the twins and hit up mana temple. It is also pretty easy with the monk switch place power.

    I return to the surface and I have a bit of a conundrum. I have the corruptions to enter quickling tree, but unholy aura is in the way. I guess I shoulda cured that when I got it, but the bonus was rather nice. I hit up Quickling tree and get my speed up to nearly 200. Then it dawns on my, I'm only level 40 and I need 5 more levels. I scum up my ST, but my only 4 potions of exchange don't cooperate. Took 2 to move my 99 ST, but it moved it to PE. The remaining 2 only shuffle around the rest of my stats. . Grind up my ST again and restore my Dex and Will.

    After I get my 99 ST back, I hit up BugCav for level 41. Good archery skills and bolt spells makes it pretty trivial although they do shred up my elven chainmail. Then go pay Blup's mom another visit. She gives me my last 4 levels (thank you slow monster and speed of 90). Turns out she was standing on a writing set so I write up a pair of ?SoRC and a pair of educations. No luck with the educations.

    Head to Master Assassin (dodge a mugger on the way) and get Filk quest and the other one of the twins. Find Filk easily on ID 21. Acid ball drops him (and my alignment). I figure time to crown myself and whip myself to shreds with a whip of slaughter I found randomly. Eventually I get L+ and head to a random altar I found on like D4. Convert it to lawful my first try by saccing 30,000 gold. Crowning nets me divine messenger (para resist FTW!). Then up to Dwarf Town to smith up my gear even more, but I forget to hit my stash for the wands of para.

    Dive down the SC is pretty uneventful. The scrolls of magic mapping make finding the down stairs pretty easy. Emperor Moloch dies in 3 hits thanks to my Monk instakill power! Clear my last corruptions with the unicorn and then I get the trident and grab the rest of the trinity from my darkforge stash and head down to D50. D47 gives me a lesser red dragon vault, however no artifacts to be found and only 1 stat potion to be found. Too much item destruction from their breath attacks. I give myself a minor heart attack when I misplace the 2 pieces of the trinity. Fire rift woke up a ghost lord threat room and one of them nicked it. I eventually recover it after kicking down half the level.

    !PoU gives me scorched spear *sigh*. I start clearing my way to the gate by digging into the north handle room and then kicking down a wall into the gate room. Fisty teleports next to me, but I teleport to the gate. Time to clear my 2 corruptions (no clue how fast that place will corrupt so might as well play it safe), equip the trinity and enter the gates. Drink all my boost potions and read magic mapping. Then I zap monster detection and teleport near Andy. Wand of fire clears all the j's he summons. A !PoCC to the face and he doesn't seem to rough. Stat draining and darkness is a bit of a pain. I switch to !AoLight from Ankh so I don't waste turns zapping light wands. I don't want to risk him teleporting away and me not seeing it. Had to clear corruptions once cause I got the slow down one. Andy is having a hard time hitting and his hits don't seem to do much damage so I risk Berserk and tear him apart. Victory is mine.

    Congratulations on the win, and I enjoyed reading your post (wish I had that luck with book shops)... but are you sure there was a vault on D:49?
