    Got back to Delven archer I had from some time, was going pretty good. Found a bookshop, restocked it, got some neat spellbooks. Went to a level with herbs and started reading all my books.

    Reading Create Item (I guessed it'd be a good boost to Literacy and Le) - spellbook drained my health from 160 to -60hp. Wow, just wow. I didn't even know such things could happen. Not having -Fate to save you with 1hp kinda sucks
    I like my women like my ADOM loot - hunted as treasure and in extra quantity.

    Hey, was wondering what happened to this challenge. Nice to see you haven't given up!

    The higher spells are very dangerous, even for spellcasters if you aren't experienced enough. Ask the level 1 wizard that starts with a book of Wish and tries to read it...

    I'm not sure Fate smiles would have helped here, since it protects from critical hits - unless the high emotional shock counts

    What about deafness? Is it treated as intrinsic if I plug my ears?
    If not, I can roll a wiz with 25 Le & Ma and make a laguna cage in animated forest to farm spellbooks and breeze through the rest of the game.
    No intrinsics required for that. I've had games before where I did not score a single mark in weapon skills and just relied on spells, that pretty much excludes the option of being cursed by monsters.
    Also I don't normally commit chaotic acts like robing shops/killing non-hostile npcs, so another source of risk removed.
    What about regeneration? Is it ok to wear 2 rings of regen, ammy of rapid healing, bracers and crown of regeneration? After all they don't grant intrinsics, just give a boost to otherwise normal game elements.
    Another thing: ring of ice. It doesn't grant any intrinsics, last I remember. Just protection for worn equipment, same as blankets for inventory (so actually the items get a =fire intrinsic, not the PC), so it's ok to have it in the ToEF to protect regen items?
    I'm very much interested in this challenge, once the above questions are answered, I will roll the character.

    OK then I'm glad wizards start with herbalism, cause there will be tales about that huge spense farm in big room.

    EDIT: Yay for the lucky roll - 23 starting Le, 25 Ma, 2 spellbooks of acid ball, 1 spellbook of teleportation.

    3 herb levels in UD helped a LOT since I had 96 herbalism already after leaving bugville at lvl 13.
    Then 2 more levels in CoC (including big room) hence some To, Dx and Wi increases.
    Other than that I don't really know why I did the pyramid, guess old habbits die hard.
    7LB were blessed when they dropped - you can imagine hw much help those have been.
    Very lucky stairhopping for spellbooks - got what I needed in less than 10 minutes.
    2 vaults, one in UD, one in CoC yielded some random items, including ring of ice, ring of speed and a few others.
    As for the talents - treasure hunter and greased lightning plus prerequisites of course. Also potent aura.
    Another thing - I've met quite a few monsters that are capable of giving me some intrinsics one way or another, luckily no physical contact took place.
    Of course fire monsters consistently dropped corpses, even without food preservation, just to tempt me.
    Let me know if anything that I have or use is not allowed in this challenge and I will gladly switch to normal game since this is such a promising char

    Can't see anything wrong about equipment. I'm surprised you took a GElven one - without Alertness the game will be pretty risky. I experienced how much damage different guys can do with breath/spell attack, so watch out for that.

    I'll probably find this out the hard way. Also I'm counting on some scrolls or potions of education to grant me that skill, but to be honest I simply didn't think about it.
    Somehow I never considered the lack of this skill to be a problem for my caster chars, but then again I usually have resistances or immunities to most kinds of magic attacks.
    Well this might prove to be interesting regardless.

    EDIT: Dead.

    DH1, booby trapped door. Went from 79 HP to -17. Guess next time, every door in DH or the whole CoC is going to be opened exclusively via knock spell.
    A shame though, I finished griffyard quest just minutes before, got quite a few decent items and were on my way to banshee.
    So far this was all perfectly manageable, the only real issue being lack of teleport control, when blink dogs spawned on at least 3 levels in different caves, just to tease me.

    Extra question:
    Is it okay to wear mental stability ring? IIRc, it does not add intrinsic directly.
    So far rolled 15 casters with RoDS and shamelessly killed them within 200 turns. For eternium glory!
