Focus on the spear, but use the sword
Khelevaster only gives the scrolls if you save him. Sorry. There are other places to get those types of scrolls though.

Dropping a corpse on the Banshee level, or selling it in a shop, will magically stop their rotting. You aren't too far from the former, so while you think, you can do that
Ah, if we were able to name regular items...Just gonna focus on that Stone Spear named Toothpick instead!
- orcish spear "screw damage, DV FTW" (+1, 1d8+2)
- mithril two-handed sword "I raided Darkforge and all I got was this lousy sword" (+6, 3d5+6) [-1, +0]
- amulet of life saving "I found this on the level below Kelly"
Yeah, no particularly stunning reward if you let him die. The scrolls are nice, that's why some people are so eager to find an AoLS. Did you kill him in purpose, or just hadn't found an amulet/wish? Because there's this underwater place with many items, that I usually search in hopes of ordinary rings...That Kelevaster guy died, so He Didn't give me any Scrolls of Chaos Resistance(?). Which is kind of weird, cause I mean what, did he just summon them out of mid-air? I looted his body!

Okay!
Well, I didn't kill him, I just talked to him, then he died!
Now then! I was on D:24, then went down to D:28! Am I losing my mind? Then I went up to D:27!
Alright, so yeah I just got the Poison Hands corruption! And I have no way of removing corruptions to my knowledge! My Snake From Beyond Corpse Rotted Away!
Oh yeah, I killed that Banshee in one hit! There was some other creature in her room and I didn't even notice her till she died!
Found the Ancient Scythe again!
So, not sure what's so bad about the poison hands, but it seems to make my food taste bad, and a lot of things glow green when I pick them up!
Still no new gear! Well other than a ring of acid resistance, but that's not too helpful.
Not really too sure what to do now. Still no wand of coldness. Any advice?
Thanks everybody!![]()
Poison hands is bad.
Any food you pick up or eat will become cursed, and therefore, less nutritious (sometimes other bad effects). Even more annoying, it will contaminate the entire stack. So if you have 100 blessed cooked lizards, and eat one, you now have 99 cursed lizards. Very annoying. Any potion you pick up will be turned into a poison of poison. Any non-poison potion that you try to drink will also turn to poison when you drink it. That's a bit of a problem if the potion that you want is, say, an emergency potion of extra healing. The only good news is that you poison monsters when you hit them. Not that it matters since they all die in 1 hit anyway.
If you wear thick gauntlets, it will prevent all of the bad effects. They're somewhat common. But this is definitely a remove ASAP level corruption, because sooner or later you're gonna make a mistake and end up turning all of your useful potions into 174 potions of poison.
If you have access to the High Mountain Village, there is a scroll of chaos resistance in a hidden room there. You can safely dip the scroll into holy water to bless it even with poison hands.
The level numbering in the middle area is a bit screwy. Don't worry about it. It gets normal again after about D:27 or 28. After you treat poison hands, I think your next stop is going to be the Tower of Eternal flames. You will find that around D:29 or so your progress will be stopped due to in impassible wall of flame. You need the Fire Orb to go further.
You might want to think about building up your climbing and stealth skills to 100. This will allow access to another trove of SoCRs. If you've got cash, the master thief in Lawentheloil can provide training in these skills after you've joined the guild.

I like my women like my ADOM loot - hunted as treasure and in extra quantity.
Alright! Got that scroll from the Small Village. I always wondered what was in that little space. So I no longer have poison hands!
Climbing *might* be possible to train. It's around level 40 or something, but has decent dice. Remember, I'm a Paladin! Skills are not a thing they are good at!
In Fact, My Stealth Skill only gets +1 if I train it! It's about 76 or so...
Also, Re: Joining the Thieves Guild, won't that pull my alignment down?
So, What's the deal with the Scroll of Omnipotence?
Anyways, I somehow doubt I can do the tower of fire yet! You guys have all made it sound really scary! Plus, I only have the one fireproof blanket! I'll show you my guy now.

Joining the Thief Guild does not affect alignment, AFAIK. You do have to do some pickpocketing to get in, which can if you do it to non-hostile monsters (or you're invisible).
Boosting those skills isn't something that has to be done immediately--it's not a particularly easy location that gets opened up, but it's probably the only easily available set of SoCR at this point for you.
Your character is definitely tower-ready, IMHO. Your stats, HP and PV are very good, and you've got the best weapon in the game. One blessed blanket is usually enough unless you get monstrously unlucky. Just don't waste time--find the stairs ASAP and ascend. It's only 4 levels tall. On the top level, dig in quickly (might want to use magic map and detect monsters so you can see where the centre of the temple is and where to dig). Most of the monsters there can't see invis, so you can pull out the Chaos Wyrm easily enough (shoot him with a bolt spell if the monsters around him won't move for you). Justifier will make short work of him. If you're concerned, smash a potion of confusion in his face before you start fighting.
Note that the Tower will damage your worn equipment if it isn't mithril or better (crystal is fine too). In particular, items made of wood (bows included), cloth/leather, stone, or iron will be destroyed if you wear it. Your cloak will always be destroyed, so just put that away. Rings are protected by gauntlets though, so wear whatever rings you want. Artifact gear is of course, perfectly fine.
[edit]If you bless your ring of ice and wear that, all of your gear will be protected, including worn gear, but not your cloak. All of your worn gear except your bow is actually already fine though, but the ring will provide extra protection for your backpack if you're really worried. Bless your fireproof blanket too.
[edit2]Your potion of blindness will work fine since you don't have a confusion one.
[edit3]Put the Water Orb in your tool slot. It gives +10 Wi with no downside. And if you 'U'se it, you will get full health (it will corrupt you though, but not that bad).

Alas, Poor Rashnaak bit the big one today.
Not sure what happened. I made it to the Fire temple, using a wand of digging. Had a whole bunch of fire guys attack me, so I cast Darkness and fought in the tunnel I made. Somehow they kept hitting me, and my HP was about 135 or so. Then I got hit by some magic attack and died.
Ah well, he had a good run.
Question: Rashnaak killed the Banshee, made it farther down the CoC, got the water orb, made it up the Fire Tower, and had more EXP than Falco, but in the little memorial page, he only had about half of Falco's points. Any idea why that would be?
Not sure what my next guy will be. I'm open to suggestions!
If you leave corpses on the banshee level itself, they will never rot. If you pick them up and go to another level, they'll rot away immediately. That's my experience.
Yergius provides two kinds of training: theoretical and practical. The former will increase your advancement dice (it seems this would be very desirable for your Stealth), the latter will train the skill and make it likely for you to receive a random increase after some time, like morgia does with Toughness.Originally Posted by Lasher
Climbing can be trained by walking in the mountains with a climbing set, but this uses too much in-game time. Getting out of pits will also train the skill.
That might very well be one of those mysteries we'll never resolve. So, What's the deal with the Scroll of Omnipotence?
Spoiler alert: reverse engineering of the game says the scroll doesn't exist as a regular item. On a recent interview, however, Thomas claimed there's stuff in ADOM we've yet to find out.
You're saying no to the AMW's intrinsics for 4 extra points of PV?
Just a joke, but I typically wear it through the entire game excepting the rare occasions where robes of resistance or fine leather armors make an appearance. And there will be at least one battle late in the game where you will want to have death ray resistance and the ability to see invisible.
I'd bless and wear both of these, at least until you do the tower. They will add 7 to your melee damage. I'd say that's better than the -Stun and +1 PV granted by your current rings.Rings ('=')
heap of 2 uncursed rings of damage [2s]
It depends on what you mean by safe. The tower is populated by fire creatures of diverse difficulty, from red worms to red dragons and fire giant kings. The first three levels are easy if you have cold magic or just magic map and teleport your way through (I prefer this method). If you guys think I should hit that tower then I will! Any advice? Is there a safe place in it at all? Also, is the tower made of fire, or what? My main food is herbs, will they burn up?
The tower is literally burning, and that's as healthy as it sounds for you and your backpack. If you hadn't obtained that immunity from your crowning, you'd need four resistances to take zero background damage. Bless your fireproof blanket - with intrinsic luck, Fate smiles, being blessed from your crowning and wearing the ankh, one will be enough. The ring of ice will protect your worn and archived gear 99% of the time if blessed, but give an spam message about shards of ice protecting your items every turn, and... well, JellySlayer already gave you good advice, so I'll stop writing about the tower now
Drink a pot- I mean glass of waterSpeaking of food, IRL I just got a fishbone stuck in my throat! It kinda sucked!
Yes, and just picking everything up without buying, then dropping it in a corner will enable at least one restock.Anyways, I'm gonna keep looking for a wand of cold. If I buy the stuff in a shop with my heaps of gold, will they get new stuff that might be helpful?
I think getting Pick Pockets has a small alignment hit. I'd just wear my amulet of balance before talking to Yergius until I become a member of his club
The phial of Caladriel will also work, but you have to go and pick it up afterwards. If you're concerned, smash a potion of confusion in his face before you start fighting.
