    Default Third Win! Human Barbarian Tahi III

    If you told me at the beginning of this month that I would finally beat ADOM, and then beat it twice more in the same month, I would have hit you. But today, I'd bow down and apologize, because I did just that.

    Tahi III started out much like Tahis I and II, who you don't know because they died stupid, painful deaths that don't deserve a mention. His first stop was Lawenilothel, where I very carefully acquired pickpocketing without killing anyone. On my way out, I was attacked by orcs, which saved me the trouble of hunting one down for my first kill.

    TD passed easily. I got healing and bridge building (which I would later actually have to use). I went into the puppy cave, and was late by about 17 hours. Whoops. But more importantly, I found morgia and pepper petals on PC:3, where I happily pumped To to about 25.

    I then decided to educate myself in the written word... only to be hit by heavy rains outside. When my two-hander rusted, I made a dive through the UD, snagging the waterproof blanket on the way. I easily made it to the HMV, but there was nothing in the shop and I couldn't teleport for the scroll, so I left.

    By the time I got to DT, I was level 12, but Thundarr was cool and asked me to kill a mimic. Unfortunately, Waldenbrook cleaned his shop that day and it didn't have one.

    Things got really easy really fast after that. My identified items yielded a PoGA and two potions of toughness, for a start. A wand shop on D:2 gave me all the wands of door creation I needed to clear the Big Room. I've never scummed herbs until this character, and I'm suddenly realizing why I had so much trouble in the past. It's much easier to stroll through the game with 30 toughness at level 15. I got crowned with fire immunity (nice) and Skullcrusher.

    The High King's area was incredibly annoying because I had to make 3 trips for logs. I will say no more about that. The Darkforge was easy with Skullcrusher, and the pools gave me permanent invisibility, death ray resistance and teleportitis without removing my teleport control. No wishes, but invisibility was probably worth more in the long run.

    The Water Temple and Fire Temples both yielded easily, though there was one tense moment where the ACW dropped me to 1 health, and then after I beat it, my fireproof blanket gave out, costing me two SoCR's. I hit up the Library for more scrolls to prepare for the last dive. I believe 50 days had passed at that point.

    I took out the Cat Lord in melee for the first time ever. That was cool.

    The lower CoC were unmemorable through their lack of Greater Vaults, but the two Red Dragon Vaults kept me busy. The first one gave me Wyrmlance, which I used to murder the second (and later AKW's nemesis). That felt good. Tahi the First died against that guy.

    The last Air and Earth Temples were as simple as usual for me. By then, with Tactics at 100 and 2 rings of slaying, most everything dropped with a few berserk hits. I took down every boss in melee, my ranged attacks having fallen behind in use long before.

    This was probably the easiest Mana Temple I've had.The Mage stepped out to yell at me and I caved his skull in.
    D:50 was pretty bad. All of those chaos freaks got very experienced towards the end. The balors gave me enough experience to hit 50, and I eventually killed everyone in melee, but a ghost lord took me to middle-aged in one hit. I'd have been pissed if I hadn't been saving a RoDS for that.

    When I closed the gate, only about 65 days had passed. I was stunned. I think it has something to do with Barbarian's L12 class power that reduces movement cost to 750, because I spent plenty of time out there. Either way, I spent a week after that killing the Black Unicorn to get all of my corruption removed, the Assassin Prince to see what Needle+Sting was all about (holy wow it's amazing), and finding Blup's mom.

    The second time I won, but this time especially, I really wish I could pit the new winner against my first winner. To the death.

    Did you compare Skullcrusher with the two-hander, assuming you didn't have to worry about hp/DV? I wonder if the two-hander isn't better...
    Treasure Hunter is an absolutely immoral talent and people who take it are slaves of their lust for loot. A real character doesn't rely on worldly goodies to save the world but will do so by trusting his inner strength.

    I did compare them; the two-hander is blessed because it was cursed when I ID'd it, and I decided to bless/equip it. Skullcrusher had 4 levels of mastery on it, plus the Basher talents, strength bonus, and humanoid slaying. If I'd found this sword before Wyrmlance, I'd have used it as a dragon slayer, because dragons evidently don't have skulls. It is definitely a good weapon with comparable damage. It's just unlucky that I found it on D:50.

    edit: If I had been more forward thinking, I'd have killed the Assassin Prince before going on the last dive. Needle+Sting had easily over 220 to-hit and 3d8+108 damage.
    People really weren't exaggerating when they mentioned those two being crazy-powerful.
