Yeah, wear only artifacts and do increments of 20 gold or so at the alter in dwarftown, if there aren't any other N alters in the game. Shouldn't take more than 1000 gold or so, if that. I've never accidentally converted an alter with 20 gold, so you should be safe.

I've been attempting OCG's lately. Corruption has been my biggest stumbling block. Try to have as many SoCR/PoCC as you can muster. Carrying the sceptre as little as possible ( it is a bit sucky when a monster picks it up and you have try and find the bugger, but carrying it all 65 levels is a big no-no) and not staying on the deepest levels of Infinity for too long. Magic mapping and teleportation is very helpful in this regard. I take the trinity directly to darkforge, as i'm sure everybody doing special endings do.

How do you manage to avoid carrying it up all 65 levels? You have to get it out of there somehow. Kicking it? Are you talking about exploiting how artifacts "jump into your pack" when leaving a level? If so, how do you know if it's been picked up by a monster when it's out of your LOS?

As soon as I enter a level I drop the sceptre, then proceed to find the up-stairs. Then go and get the Sceptre and go up another level. Then repeat.
Is why teleportation is helpful. Didn't know artifacts jump into your pack. Now I shall exploit that,

Edit: Does this 'feature' of artifacts only occur in Infinity? It sure isn't the case in the CoC, as I don't carry the trinity around there either. I leave it on the down-stairs, explore the next level and then go fetch it.

The jump into your pack is only for artifacts in Infinity, and specifically does not include the Sceptre. Whenever I've returned to the surface with the sceptre I recreated each level till it was a "stairs next room" type. Enough time in the ID and you learn to recognise these fairly reliably.

Wilderness too.
Just to put things clear - next room usually means being generated in corner room with doors being placed vertically [corridor leading down or up presumably] - such type has like 90percent chance of room in other end of mentioned corridor being with other stairs. Something i would like to see fixed actually if ADOM gets some development.
