The End of a Merchant

After taking a short break from ADOM, I decided I would return and give myself a small challenge. I began a game with a male gray elven merchant, a class which I have never been too successful with, named Mathias. Despite my lack of luck and experience with the class, this game turned out rather well for a while. I began the game with an expert knowledge of potions and an heir gift. I then proceeded right to the VD in attempts to obtain healing. VD: 2 contained a neutral altar, which I used to see the status of my potions. After drinking one blessed potion of gain attributes, I proceeded to complete the quest, using up all of Jharod's healing in the process.

Thinking that the ants were still too strong for me, I decided to skip the puppy quest. Instead, I went and cleared the DDL before proceeding right to the CoC. Dwarftown was on D: 9, and Thrundarr wanted me to slay a dark elven archer. Hoping to find one in the big room, I went back to D: 6, where I was ambushed by a dark elven priestess. I was soon surrounded by giant spiders, continuously poisoning me. I did not die immediately though, I had a decent supply of blessed spenseweed, fairly good DV, passable PV, and level 9 skill with my mithril broadsword. However, even that couldn't save me from a 8 poisonous spiders at once.

Thus came the end of my most successful merchant yet, as well as the most interesting game I've had in quite awhile. My only regret is that the priestess panicked and never received punishment for her crime.

Glad to see another returning to play ADOM. That is a terrible painful death, that many characters suffer. Best, if you can, not to get surrounded by those guys at lower exp levels. In the Big Room I usually run for the nearest stairs or wall when I see the 1st sign of a factory. Even becoming unburdened to reach the stairs/wall in time. Good luck with your next character.
