Default Tomb of the High Kings disaster!!!

Its my first awesome character, and I took pains to freeze the entire lake.... anyhow, I had just gotten the ring of the high kings and picked up my stuff, and then my phone rang. It scared the absolute crap out of me and my hand brushed the 8 key.... and I got devoured by chaos pirrhanas.

    1) Would this be a legitimate use of save scumming?

    2) Is it even possible to get the file since its in use, I havent transferred any backups anywhere, and the dude just died

    3) If it is possible, how do I do it?

If you feel that this is user error, so be it. I dont know of any way to have avoid this from having happened other than taking pains to isolate myself from the world whenever I play the game....

I feel like I could cry

Unfortunately it's a little too late if you haven't already made a backup. I used to make backups of my characters due to the spontaneous crashing of 1.1.1 so I would usually have a backup in case of a crash. In your case where it was a complete accident I'd say it's up to you. I'd probably finish playing out the character for my own pleasure but I probably wouldn't post it to the YAVP thread. It's the silly mistakes leading to immediate death that can make ADOM so exciting which is why save scumming kinda takes away from the experience. Like I said, it's really up to you on whether to do it or not, it's not exactly a matter of morality.

If you don't have backups, you're out of luck.

I've accidentally closed the ADOM Sage window and lost characters that way. No confirmation prompt either; just hit the X and hours of progress gone. If I could have gotten those characters back, I probably would have, but in the end I'm a madman. I just played new characters. (I suspect I don't invest quite as much time in a single character as you apparently do, so I know that isn't exactly of much help.)

I think it'd be an honorable use of backups more than it not, if you had any - but you don't.

Freezing the entire chaos piranha lake seems pretty damned extreme. I only ever build the three square bridge from the southern shore. Though I guess I'd do it differently if you couldn't trick confusion so easily in the current version.

That could help in the future.

    *nods*

I get the feeling that being able to make confusion wear off by cleaning your ears isn't exactly an intended feature. The piranha lake could be made pretty dangerous to approach without resistance, if such methods are fixed.

if you froze the entire lake then how did pressing 8 land you in chaos piranhas?

I believe I stated that I had just picked my stuff back up - all 5,000 stones of it... which I left on the shore of the lake... 9 artifacts, 7 scrolls of chaos resistance, 3 extra pairs of seven league boots...

And I froze the whole damned lake for the sole reason that I could do it easily and didnt want to take any chances... just my luck...

if you hadn't frozen the lake, you wouldn't have died.

you get a prompt if you aren't stepping on ice
"Whip me!" pleads the adom player. The rng replies... "No."

I always drop my stuff in the same spot - which is intentionally not right next to the shore, but to the lowest possible right.

Yeah, I drop your stuff several squares away to avoid this sort of accident. In ADOM you can never be too careful...

This is how I do it myself as it is the safest method of protecting your items while unattended.
