I guess the real question in regards to the Banshee tactic is:

Is this usage of the banshee akin to bring our favorite "Mrs Barr" to the Forest and farming the trees there? I would say similar but not same level scummyness.

It is all in how you view the game. Taking advantage of the in-game mechanics for an edge is not wrong however is there going too far?

What are chances of failing scroll writing for beastfighter? Wishing for magical writing sets should be more effective in terms of quantity and Ma is useless without casting anyway. Or is there a penalty for To after Ma is 1?

Seriously, Al-Khwarizmi, I would like to know why you would call this scummy. It is not grinding. It is not risk free, either. You need a reasonably strong character to survive it. A level 20+ beastfighter who made it past the ToEF can make it, especially because they get a speed bonus and it helps to be fast. That's why I advised it to Lasher.

It is not free, it costs a wish. The rewards are good, but not game breaking. The rewards are comparable to what you get for saving Khelly, really. And again: a wizard of the same level doesn't even need a wish to get those rewards. He gets it all for free. Tell me, is acid balling the bug cave with a level 20+ caster scummy?

Is it because you feel it was not the intention that people would do this? But then why is it allowed to wish for a banshee at all? Using a banshee to kill dangerous monsters is the obvious thing to do. And the creator of the game clearly considered that possibility. Many boss monsters are immune to the banshee wail.

OK, you convinced me. It's not really scummy. It's just chaotic evil. I tend to roleplay so I wouldn't do it with a lawful or neutral character, but that's all.

I'd check the Casino first before you do anything else. Maybe you can find an amulet of teleport control or something else useful there. Don't pick up wands otherwise you will end up in large amounts of debt.

I'm a bit late to this party, and sorry for hijacking from the Banshee discussion. But, unless it was changed in the most recent update, absorbing charges from wands in shops doesn't rack up debt. You can safely pick up the wands, absorb the charges, up your PP, then drop the wands without consequences. I've done this dozens of times, though I can't say for sure that I have since the update.

A related exploitable feature - When you have Mana Battery and you sell wands in a shop, the charges aren't absorbed until you actually drop the wand, so the shopkeeper will give you the price for the full wand rather than the empty.

I'd like to know that too. There is no penalty to toughness, but you'll take damage when you write SoCR while low on PP. Beastfighters might take quite a lot of damage, could be dangerous? Not sure.

Sorry guys! I'm playing 1.1.1? ANyways, it turns out I DO have to pay if I pick up a wand! I "owe the Merchants guild" it was about 7000 dollars! No idea if it was super high cause it was a nice wand with a lot of charges (Didn't identify it), or because it was in the casino!

Now! Regarding the Banshee! I like the idea, but as mentioned It is a little evil! But Clever. I won't do it cause it sounds scary, and I'm L+! But thanks for the advice, cause I know I'm gonna do it in the future! Do you just lead the banshee around bit by bit waiting for it to scream? It doesn't always scream I know. Only sometimes.

Also! An Update: I DO have magic writing set. With 2 charges. But, I haven't tried it cause I haven't got a scroll of chaos resistance, and my literacy is around 50ish. I figured that would make it hard? I don't think I even have the Concentrate skill! :\

Oh, and I got another corruption! Grr.. Anyways, the Mana Draining was now Protected by two other corruptions right? So I got almost naked, and read the Tract of Order, which cleaned up my newest corruption, very thin, no problem with no equipment loss! My God Protected me.

Then, what I did was, Blessed a Potion of Cure Corruption. I dipped it in holy water and I must have just found it somewhere, I don't know. Anyways. I drank it. And....I felt Cold? It didn't do anything! What? It was DEFINITELY a blessed potion of cure corruption. But it didn't cure me?

Whyyy?

Blessed potions of cure corruption cure about 0.65 corruptions - so if you were already far enough down the road to the next, you won't be able to remove a corruption with one.

Missiles "of slaying" slay everything. Very much yay.

"gorgeous" gives 8 Appearance. Nothing worth mentioning.

Money belts prevent your money from being stolen by ratling thieves and such. Also nothing worth mentioning.

The potion of stun recovery is a joke item, indeed

You probably shouldn't try to write a scroll of chaos resistance even if you could. It hurts.

A PoCC removes ~800 corruption points while blessed (an SoCR does about 1500). Tracts of order remove I think about 20 points. You gain/loss a corruption every 1000 points, so if you just removed one with your tract of order, one PoCC will not be enough to remove the next corruption.

The 7000 gold is probably just because you are in the Casino. Everything there is pretty expensive.

Writing an SoCR with 50 literacy is probably going to be unsuccessful most of the time.

[edit2]Looking at your gear... you're pretty well set, actually. There are better helmets and boots out there, but nothing that is worth wishing for. You have the best bracers, best girdle*, decent armor, good amulet, decent cloak, and a good set of rings already (I would consider using that ring of regeneration more or less full-time myself, though. Or, at least, any time you're injured... those things are awesome). I'd probably go ahead and wish for SoCRs if you want to clear mana battery and don't feel like doing the Rift or Bug Temple to get more. For the other wish... I dunno. You could wish for Find Weakness, I guess, though it's not that important at this point in the game. You can just save it for some emergency, though, in my experience, normally such wishes just end up never getting used. If you reach D:50 without one, you can wish for a wand of destruction if you aren't into killing all of the balors. If you want to prove to the world that you are a badass, you can wish for an emperor moloch (CAUTION: VERY dangerous fight will result).

[*]The game's best girdle is an artifact one that is really stupidly hard to get.

Thanks guys! Well, I will wish for the Scrolls then! What was really confusing was that I thought the potion would at least Swirl or something? I just felt cold! VERY boring potion IMO.

Oh! I'm using the Gauntlets cause I Don't like Getting Hungry! I Try my best to never use Artifacts cause I hate getting hungry so much!

I don't know if you guys have noticed but some characters are just hungrier than others. I think maybe it's based on species and class. Anyways, Bleeder here is a bit of an eater. He's not the worst I've ever played, but is still hungrier than some. He's about average.

Did you know? Bleeder used to be named Ruggers! His name got changed after he just kept bleeding all the time for so long!
