    Default start questions

Hello, i just played adom for about 2 days and im too stupid to find the read book/scrolls key, because that should make the most mage classes almost unplayable.
It would be nice if you tell me.
And id like to say that the registration is a bit stupid i think, answering 3 questions to prove you are a human older than 8 is nonsense in my opinion.
    Thank you!

The registration isn't to prove your age, but to try and prove that you're human. We've had some... awful experiences in the past. Ever since then, the term "insect rape porn" has achieved forum meme status, for instance.

As for your question, the key is "r" for "read". Check if caps lock is activated, since "R" is "check recipes".
ADOM Guides - whatever you wanted to know about playing a certain class, but have been afraid to ask!

Check out my youtube channel to see my ADOM videos, including a completed playthrough of the game. I try to give instructions, so if you want to see some place you haven't been before and get some hints on how to deal with it, this might help! There's also some other games featured there that you might find interesting.

Pushing '?' in the game helps alot for finding keybindings for certain essential things such as cleaning your ears

Don't forget '>' to enter locations instead of just wandering the wilderness map - you can't read there

Welcome to ADOM buddy! If you press the ? key in game, and then press K for keybindings, you can see a full list of them while playing. When I was getting used to it, I kept a webpage of the keybinding list up so I could search it with ctrl F. It took me a couple days of looking up everything but quickly became second nature (and I think it was a very worthwhile investment).

If you have any more trouble, feel free to ask!
    I need a shorter sig.

run adom -r for a printable list
"Whip me!" pleads the adom player. The rng replies... "No."

anyway, im playing the game alot, but without the saving saves somewhere else-trick i always dying after lvl 6-8, with the trick i have a lvl 13? orcish barbarian(yes, really creative ^^) but i dont now when i should start exploring the left side of the river
are there any other tipps like an easy early artifact or just a save place to lvl up and find items? (except id)(generally i dont know any short names of places, so pls try to describe everything somehow)

if you manage to survive the first quests, you can try your luck exploring the rest of the world..but think of something else instead of crossing the river, you may just want to head south and find a way around it. You can get your first quests by talking to some special characters in terinyo (sheriff, elder, druid, tiny girl), you will find some quests are easier than others, i'll leave it to yourself..it's not necessary to accomplish them, but they're a good way to beef up your character before exploring the rest of the map. Also note that you won't be able to find some locations if you don't get the attached quest, i.e. the famous Village Dungeon only spawns after you've talked to the elder in terinyo. Be sure you read out the game manual, as it gives lots of hints to get started.
Besides, don't rely on finding an easy artifact, but try to build your character along the way..if you explore a quest location (village dungeon, puppy cave etc.) you'll be finding interesting things and you'll level up along the way, better than you would in the id..it's yer choice, anyway.

Also, let me say that savescumming is bad for your karma trial and error is the way to go, and nothing is like the pure emotions you get from knowing that your character will die forever if you mess it up.

Save scumming is fine if done to learn the game by doing, as is the case here.

Once you feel ready, you can stop doing it, and indeed it makes you play and reason better in the face of dangers (you no longer have that backup to go to if you die), which is pretty much what ADOM is about.
