    Default Second Victory, Mist Elf Duelist

    Second win in about 10 years of playing ADOM, some highlights:

    Started in UD since I had the candle birth sign it was fairly unremarkable other than a couple vaults without any great loot. I was almost level 12 out of the UD. Next went into the PC and then the DD.Choose the wand and book from the druid quest since To was already maxed and I didn't feel like farming herbs. Brought the Druid corpse back for a PoCR and found 2 more in the upper levels of CoC on my way to dwarftown. First quest was for a Skeleton Warrior which was a pain, I hung around in the big room for a while hoping for one but didn't have any luck (but I did find the eternium broadsword I used until I got crowned). Decided to do the Dwarven Graveyard and the Pyramid both were pretty easy. Didn't bother grabbing the Sword of don't think I even had a method to dig the grave at that point anyway. Decided to grab the ring of the high king since the skeleton warrior is now guaranteed in the bottom level. Strangely the room in the middle was generated without a door (or else it got smashed). After killing the skeleton king I used frost bolt to cross and grab the ring which was basically the only spell casting I did other than using light and darkness a few times. After returning to dwarf town to turn in the quest I did the other 4 remaining quests mostly without issue (karmic dragon generated on DH2 on my way back to dwarf town was the only issue but I was quick enough to run away.)

    Left big punch, my gold and a few other items in the ogre caves to save myself some weight on the dive down to the flame barrier. With my scroll of familiar summoning in hand I went back to DH 2 and summoned my new pet, a Greater Air Elemental. I allowed him to dispatch the karmic dragon but left him on DH2 so that he wouldn't steal exp and/or accidentally kill me. On the way down I ran into a couple vaults but little else, my first corruption was teleportitis but I had tele control so it was very nice. The CoC graveyard was pretty easy, let Khel die, found some useful corpses in the banshee level and the water temple wasn't a problem. On my way back up to ToEF I used the 50 si in my inventory and the gold I had saved up to become a champion of balence. Got crowned with Executor and Lightning immunity. I decided I was going to use my sword in the tower since I had experience with it (level 11 at this point) and no experience with axes. Once I walk into the tower I notice i'm taking damage which I wasn't expecting. Apparently the ring of ice doesn't give fire res. I decide to go do darkforge instead (and train my axe) and after clearing the second level (had a close call due to a critical hit) I found a Red Dragon Scale Mail!! I proceed to the tower with my shiny new armor and clear it with little issue. For the ACW I threw a PoCC at him and then killed him in one hit with my axe, I had no idea that the potion did that much damage. I killed the remaining fire demons for some exp and went back to the CoC. At this point I basically dove all the way down to the bottom doing each of the temples as they came. Found nothing important in the casino. Tunneled to the bottom part of the bunny level and killed bugs quickly. When I got to the cat level (having killed many cats) I was worried about the cat lord, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to handle him in melee safely. Fortunately when I found him I hit him with a wand of Paralysis and killed him before he recovered.

    When I reached the Air temple I had an unfortunate accident... I dropped 90% of my gear on the level before without realizing I had the living battery corruption (no clue when I got it), so after zapping all my wands of their charges I only had enough potions of booze for my wand of digging and monster detection so most of my wands were useless at that point. Otherwise the air temple was pretty easy nothing too dangerous was summoned to I just waded through and cut him down. When I got to the earth temple I used the stairs to thin out the elementals and grues and I was able to kill the ASB pretty easily and relatively quickly considering his health. I found 2 greater vaults of greater undead, the first I cleared the outer ring and the other I didn't mess with at all. I encountered the only 2 boss monsters of the game in the UL a berserker lord (one shot him) and a flesh golem (2 shot). The mana temple was a bit of a pain, I had no way to detect the traps so I just walked through all of them chugging a few potions after killing alot of minions Nuurag finally came out, it took a little while but I was able to kill him before he cast and death rays, and only lost a few stat points. On D50 I walked through and killed everything, it took a while but the balors weren't much of a threat and fisty went down pretty easily after boosting my speed to over 200 which was probably excessive considering my melee attacks only took 330 EP due to a corruption. I started trying to clear out the first undead vault on my way back up but gave up when the entire half of the map was full of random monsters. I met an emperor lich on my way up which was kind of scary but I was able to get to him and kill him before he was able to do anything nasty. After I reached the surface I did the unicorn quest and then left with 0 corruption.

    Duelists are pretty powerful, even early on my melee attack was very good and I barely used missiles or magic throughout the game

    Compared to my first victory I did it in about a third of the time (about 150000 turns vs 65000) and this time I never even backed up the save file. On my first victory I was paranoid about crashes but nothing ever happened and I was never tempted to scum

    The blessed one I had was destroyed and I wasn't having weight problems at that point but I didn't have any other girdles with me

    So with 200 speed and 300 movement cost you were getting like 6 attacks to 1? lol

    I thought about using berserk for a couple turns and then changing to defensive when he was about to attack but attacking that fast it wouldn't have mattered.

    I'm having a lot of trouble getting a Mist Elf past level 6. If you don't mind, what was your early game 'build order'? In what order did you hit each location?
    Every promising ME I get seems consigned to death by explody door, and I just have no clue what I can do to combat it. I have to go through doors, dangnabbit!

    It's really not hard, just requires a little luck. (much less hard after p7). For instance, my first ME Wiz is already past DT and has only encountered one exploding door. (perhaps you are trying to explore every level fully? dunno..didn't have too much problem on my ME Beastfighter, either...) According to first post, order was UD > PC > DD, though.
