    Default Let's play ADOM

Hey guys, I found out that most of my characters' deaths happen due to impatience or stupidity, so I decided to start a Let's Play series on youtube. I hope that this way I will take a little more care to avoid stupid actions. I also hope that maybe some good and experienced players will watch the videos and give me a hint or two how to improve my skills, while I myself will try to explain some of my own tactics to new ADOM players. I intend to upload a video of 20-30 minutes every couple of days, so it won't get too time-consuming.

If you want to take a look, here is the link to the current episode:

I did watch it, but there isn't too much to comment on, yet, but for the image quality. Hope you can sort that out. Good luck.

And the wilderness is not a dungeon, don't waste energy there by running around, always take shortest route, especially at the start when food can be a problem.

Thanks Stingray! I think the problem with the image quality was due to low frame rate. I hope the problem will be solved when I just increase it. You are right, there hasn't been much action so far. I will edit the starting post of this thread with short summaries of each episode as well as the actual length, so you guys know what to expect. I really don't know why I wasted two steps in the wilderness. Normally I go two steps to the southwest and then to the southeast till I reach the outlaw settlement, so I scout as much as possible on the way... I just like explored maps ;-)

Much better video quality now. Sound is good.

You did two one life threatening actions, which made me hold my breath. The first was m Meleeing a gelatinous cube without having -para. That was risky. When you are paralyzed there is a significant drop in DV, I think yours would have been around 0. Although with your PV at 6 you probably would have survived. Throwing rocks, maybe safest.

The second one was un-equipping your armour while standing on top of an altar. There are enough neutral monsters in the game for this action to be considered dangerous.
It takes 3 turn, I think, to equip armour. Enough time for a pixie to teleport in and scream words to its god.

    Good Luck.

Edit - I'll try not to post again too late at night

    Cool band.
You don't have to be taught all that much; you just need to acquire more cautiousness, an almost healthy amount of sheer paranoia, and a more fine-tuned "OH SHIT RUN!" reflex. ~Silfir

Thanks again, Stingray! You're right, should not have meleed the cube. I was actually wondering if he was the paralyzing guy, but when I threw the rock at him and it got dissolved, I kind of thought: "Ooooh, that's his super power! He's the dissolver, not the paralyzer!" x-) I'm really glad I didn't have to pay for that "brilliant" thought!

Glad you like our music, Cash! We're not the most filigree band, but we are dedicated Heavy Metal maniacs to the very bone and that's how we sound ;-)

Had a look on my BB at work. Screen a bit small to see much detail. Very nice indeed to have TP control sorted so early.
I do think you spend maybe a little too much time trying to get more summoned, not serious gameplay was, but not too much fun to watch from a viewer's perspective. Missed the price on the girdle( text small on BB), but maybe 1 more PV than buying the headgear. Although (+1,+1). Would have been better.

Looking forward to the loot in the puppy vault. Good luck through the cavernous.

Thanks man :-) I think you're right about the blink dogs, but on the other hand I'm really not the best player. I definitely did not want to miss this opportunity because I'd love to see Gordizzl at least reach the midgame.
The girdle was almost 2k gold pieces and actually the leather cap was the only usefull item that I could afford. I hope for a financial boost from the puppy cave.

I'm busy watching the video again on an actual computer this time. The part with the blink dogs aren't too bad to watch actually. I think it is due to me not listening previously and with your commentary it is a none-issue. Oh, yeah thought it might have been too expensive, sorry for doubting your judgment on that.

Seen the first two parts, cool stuff. Looking forward to more. Hopefully when you close the gate you'll continue on exploring the world unlike Silfir (or maybe your LP will make him resume his and do a proper 100 percent completion LP). No idea why I like watching people play ADOM on YT, even watched the russian guy with his 2-3h long attempts (dicemaster or smth like it) with my very basic understanding of russian. I guess it's seeing how RNG suddenly becomes righteous and just when other people get the other end of the stick too... oh and audio, so much better with audio, spectating on SSH does not come close (even if it's mad shouts of Grey, or maybe especially when...)
