Default piles o stuff and avoiding *crash*

I read in a thread about crashes being caused by too many items.

My current priest is stock piling HUGE quanites of stuff, dreaming of getting the identify spell.

So i am asking for a crash?

are "artifacts" labeled specificly as such?

I have never had a problem crashing. It's happened to me twice or three times, but never with the pile of stuff bug. My guess is that if you haven't found a scroll of identify, you aren't even close to having the pile of stuff necessary. As to artifacts they are usually listed as rune-covered before identifying or once identified they have a name in quotes.

I recommend creating a batch file to automatically back up your save file in case of a crash. For windows, create a .bat file using notepad with the following text:

    xcopy /y "c:\program files\adom\adom_dat\savedg\*.*" "c:\program files\adom\adom_dat\backup\"
    start c:\progra~1\adom\adom-s~1.exe

Replace the c:\etc stuff with your adom path. Run this instead of the adom executable and you'll at least be able to recover from crashes somewhat by moving the old save file back to the savedg directory.

A blessed scroll of ID will identify everything you are carrying. Furthermore, weapons and armor can be equipped to identify them (usually).

As far as artifacts go, they usually have a special name. For example, Vanquisher shows up as a silvery longsword Serpent's bite is an emerald dagger skullcrusher is a rune covered club, thunderstrike is an obsidian quarrel and so on.

I seem to remember there is at least one artifact (justifier maybe? I don't remember for sure) that just shows up as a plain item type though.

Needle is an example. Impossible (I think) to tell from an ordinary dagger until identified. It may not stack.

You can carry around pretty large stashes of items at once, I've found. I think the report
about crashing due to item piles refers to *absurdly* large piles, like maybe piling all the loot
from a trip through the blue dragon caves on top of a few casino buyouts with a white dragon
    greater vault's loot.

I would say more likely than not the pile o' stuff crash is caused because there's an ingot in there triggering the ingot bug.
Hoping to win with every class, doomed. Archer, Barbarian, Bard, Beastfighter, Druid, Elementalist, Farmer, Fighter, Monk, and ULE Priest down.

The ingot bug is where ingots of different weights are dropped
at the same time, and the game tries to stack them together
    and ends up crashing, right?

OK, now I know why I never see some of the artifacts that are generated in my games (according to the report after death)... I'll have to be more careful.
