Default Shops running out of money

It has happened to me three times that shopkeepers run out of money when I'm selling stuff.

First two times it happened in the High Mountain Village, but now it just happened in Dwarftown. It seems to depend on the number of items sold, more than the actual amount of money.

Has anyone observed this behaviour? I haven't seen it described anywhere...

Oh yes. just when you need cash the most. it will refill when you hear a certain sound.

I think it is connected to cash reversely spent, personally.

It happens quite frequently in my experience, particularly when you try to sell your first bundle of Sis for example. One of the shopkeeper sound effects indicates that he's restocking more money, but I don't remember which one.

My experience is that it seems to be strongly level dependent. Past level ~20 or so, I've never had this happen.

If there's items that you want to buy, you can buy some stuff to free up some of his money, then sell other stuff to get it back. If there's nothing you want, you'll have to wait...

If you hear him counting money, then he should logically have some cash...but it might be the tiny bell sound. Too long since I read anything about it. The truth is out here.

Nah, it's the amount of money.

    > Has anyone observed this behaviour?

    All the time.

    > it will refill when you hear a certain sound.

Can't recall it off of the top of my head either.
I know 'arcane mumbling' means a restock, and it
may also be for money as well. Just can't remember.

Not to my knowledge. I'm pretty sure that shopkeepers
periodically get infusions of cash, I'm assuming from
the 'merchant's guild'. To my knowledge, it is based on
game turns (or time) that the PC spends on the shop's
level. I have no code dived info on this, just playing
    exp.

    > it seems to be strongly level dependent.

    I don't think it's exp. level related.
"Whip me!" pleads the adom player. The rng replies... "No."

'You see/hear (dunno which) -shopkeeper- happily ringing the cash box bell'
You just need to spend enough time on the level for this to happen

It's only happened to me a few times, usually in Leggot's shop (assuming I actually make it there)

If you happen to know of a location to a missing chapter of ADOI, please contact me. <3

That means you may well have a habit of :
    a) spending more time on the level with the shop
    AND / OR
    b) not selling things worth lots of gold

I most often see shops running out if I keep hoarding stuff above Dwarftown, pop in, quickly sell most of it, and then get back out immediately, without spending more time on the level. Legott seems to run out more easily.

Not guaranteed evidence, I know but I've just had HMV shopkeeper run out of money when I was level 15. 2000XP later when I made it to level 16 I went back and sold the other 18K worth of stuff I had clogging up my inventory. Looks like it may be level based - or else I just got lucky.
