Wild Cat appears. No problem. Throw the potion of exchange at him. "The wild cat disappears!"... and is replaced by a cave lion.

Best bet is to get the guaranteed wand of teleportation in the Sinister Cave - you can always port the cat/lion out of there to win. or port yourself and come back later to finish with wand of trap creation.
