The point of the dungeon is to have an easy first location to visit. So indeed, there should normally be no revenants on this level. It may be an out-of-depth monster generation though, did you get the message "you sense immenent danger..."? Without "... but the feeling passes" afterwards, that means that a monster of higher DL spawned.

I guess there was not special message. But I'm using fast_more, so there is a very little chance for it to be missed.

Number of dead (or successful) characters in the special file (something like adom.cnt in the game folder?): 30+ - 3-level cave, before that - tutorial.
