I didn't know that! I mean I've tried getting past 25 but maybe I'll give that a go on my next character 12 you say?

Splinter is currently beating up steel golems with his bare hands (I'm training up Unarmed again just in case). Nothing interesting in Darkforge armour or weapon-wise - the armour room only had 2 pieces of armour in it. The rest were clothes and robes (no artifact Shirt or Robes of Resistance sadly). Picked up the Crown of Science to go in my big pile of expendable artifacts at the Barbarian's Glade. Also managed to get a giant boar's skull!

Will probably attempt the ToEF after this then go down the CoC to the Casino, get the Darkforge exit sorted and go back and do the Water Temple. I figure since I have Sun's Messenger, slaying ammo, and also the RCT, I should have a good chance Hoping I have enough fire resistance though. I think I've eaten for fire resistance intrinsic, and I'm wearing the RotHK, a ring of fire resistance and the elemental gauntlets. This does mean I can't wear a ring of ice for worn eq protection, so no helm of mental stability or ring of the clear mind Switched back to the armour/weapon loadout for polearm/shield, and my DV/PV at Very Aggressive are 69/50. Nice!

EDIT: Okay, so turned out I did have enough fire intrinsic, so I put on the helm with a ring of ice. ACW went down in 2 throws from the RCT! Delivered corpse to Guth'Alak, and now I'm making the trip down the CoC.

I hope I don't lose this character. He's pretty buff for what he's doing, even if it turns out I did mess up my first kill and wind up not doing an ultra. Maybe I'll end up doing an OCG ending, although that does seem out of character for Splinter!

Splinter is now chilling out at the Casino. He's level 21, and decided to do a bit of graverobbing in the CoC Graveyard, finding Brannalbin's Cloak of Defence on the bones of some previous poor sod who attempted to close the gate but failed. I'm now looking for a scroll of danger in the Casino shop. No artifacts here that I can see on a quick runthrough. Plan of action is to backtrack to the Water Temple, get the orb, then head to the Darkforge exit to hand the corpse in to Guth'Alak. At this stage, I'll consider options for increasing levels, so maybe explore the Rift, do the top level of the Bug Temple maybe, Minotaur Maze once I hit level 25?

He also has a ring of djinni summoning just in case, and as mentioned above, he has a giant boar skull. Woo.

    Questions for the floor...

    1. He has the 'fragile stilt leg' corruption - does this corruption overwrite the level 18 monk power of base movement cost being 600? The corruption base movement cost says it is 750. I've found a pair of 7LB in the Casino shop, and would that overwrite the corruption's movement cost effect?

    2. I'm equally training up Bows, Crossbows and Thrown Spears. At the moment, Sun's Messenger and the RCT are totally killing everything in sight, so I'm wondering if there's any point in me continuing to train up Crossbows for the time being? They're all level 9, I'm doing it because of the slaying ammo I'm getting really.

    3. Similar question goes for Unarmed vs Polearms (level 10 vs level 11). Also, if I get the AotME, should I switch to that, or stick with my trusty Bugbiter?

Still no idea on the first kill, all I know is that I've still not killed 20 of it yet

Looks like it's 502 when I move! Well, that's nice! Eating puts it up to 1000.

    The situation so far...

Splinter is level 22 and has finished the Water and Air Temples. He decided to put Bugbiter to a bit of use and raided the Bug Temple for goodies whilst doing his best to throw the RCT at the killer bugs, even taking on a couple of them in melee with Bugbiter (this is still damn scary even with the insect slaying attribute). Didn't clear it out entirely so there's still some killer bugs to finish off. On the other hand, I now have around 12 scrolls of magic mapping that I've collected on my travels which should be quite nice for the trip to the Minotaur Maze when I can enter it. I picked up some blue dragon scale mail which helped with the Air Temple, although I'm alternating between white dragon scale (better stats) and the padded elven chain mail of resilience (read some scrolls of defence to buff it a little) depending on whether I'm fighting Unarmed or with Bugbiter.

Splinter has now dropped down to chaotic alignment from neutral, due to walking over a statue that caused alignment changes. The Old Barbarian doesn't really want to talk to him any more, oh well! I think I'll start offloading artifacts on to the demented ratling. I'm thinking these ones:

    Crown of Science
    Black Torc
    Sword of Nonnak
    Big Punch
    Death's Blade
    Phial of Caladriel

Otherwise, I think I'm going to take a trip down the Rift as I'm still looking for a scroll of danger. Am I correct in thinking that once I complete Gaab'Baay's quests I can switch back to a different alignment and get crowned?

Yes, though UCG seems to give massively greater final score than any of the Avatar endings.

Unfortunately the ghost librarian in the Library got killed by another NPC, so I just took the scrolls and books and left. No scroll of danger however. I also killed the minotaur emperor - the random artifact was the scorched spear, oh well. Am level 26 though and might try giving the AotME a whirl. Not sure how 'monkish' it is though!

I guess the next step is to keep going down the CoC and work on getting levels. My monk certainly feels stronger than he should be at level 26, but I'm not complaining. I guess I need to get to level 45 somehow to be able to look for the TotRR later on, so will aim to get to the Blue Dragon Cave and maybe live there for a bit. Still no idea on what my first kill was, but going through the motions is making me feel more confident about trying ultras in the future at least.

Should I use my ring of djinni summoning to get the scroll of danger?

AoTME is distilled fun, but if you want to keep the style up, stick to unarmed/polearms. if you want an easy level 45, if you get an easy deep GV [like giants], one or two castings of slow monster can yield massive experience gains from titan kills.

I'd wait with using a wish on a scroll - if possible, try farming a casino restock, if you're going for Avatar of Balance, you'll need to be extremely corrupted anyway, so one or two more background corruptions shouldn't bother you. if for Avatar of Law, corruption will be mostly a non-factor anyway. If you're fine with getting by with not-crowning for a long time, putting it away for a chance of finding more wishes/scroll dropping in a vault or temple is an option too. Crowning generally isn't soemthing you need to rush when you're preparing a char for an ultra - you will be beefy enough anyway.

I've noticed that I've not had any items break from falling down the Rift since I've been playing 1.2.0, yet I'm not brave enough to just fall down it without storing important stuff at the Glade, so I had no wands of door creation to block off the Librarian.

I think I would've been more annoyed with the scorched spear if I didn't have all those scrolls of magic mapping that made getting to the minotaur emperor quick and easy. The PoCC and PoGA were the real prizes though.

I'm currently at a giant GV at D:46 (wow, maybe we are each other! :O), I think Thunderstroke is one of the artifacts (got a black /), which is nice, because now I can continue training up Crossbows (Bows, Crossbows and Thrown Spears are all at level 10!). I'll give the Slow Monster trick a go. At the moment I am just running into giants with the AotME and mashing them to shreds. I am going to hold off on the Mana Temple though for the time being, because that place does give me the heebie-jeebies even though I think I could possibly take it...

I haven't really experienced any ill effect of not being crowned so I'm happy to put it off. I have dragon scale mail of all colours so immunity is not an issue. I'm just not a fan of being Chaotically-aligned, but I'm keeping my piety relatively okay with the Chaotic deity for getting holy water, and if I need a prayer for something (but not high enough to accidentally crown myself). I'm aiming for an Avatar of Balance, but again it all hinges on whether I messed up with the first kill...

How might I go about farming the Casino? Just gamble, buy lots of stuff, drop the useless stuff downstairs, rinse, repeat?

funnily enough, my CK UCG went into Maze with 0 scrolls of magic mapping... and he went straight down. Unlike any of my underprepared chars, he hit >no< fake levels at all. It was bliss.

for faming the casino you may also gather everything in one corner tile of the shop, then wait for restock - at least half of the space should fill up.
