Pass eternal guardian without ring of the high kings or guaranteed teleportation?

Hi everybody,

got a little problem at the moment with a level 22 dark elven wizard on a lithium run. This guy has scouted the complete caverns of chaos up to the eternal guardian without finding any means of on demand teleportation. Since the restrictions of the challenge forbid him to get the ring, I'd like to know if there is maybe some kind of secret method to pass the guardian without teleporting to the stairs. Otherwise there might be no other way but doing some grinding in the big room or the animated forest.

I don't know for sure, but maybe killing him while he stays on the stairs gives one turn before he respawns? Then again, easier said than done :P

You can always eat a displacer beast corpse...

ahhh..ive done this with my very last lithium runner (successful)....all you need to do is have either of the following:- potions of blindness, potions of confusion, cursed potions of invisibility, potions of invisibility+ (cursed potions of water or cursed scrolls of uncursing). what you do is stand on any adjacent square to the eternal guardian and throw any of these potions on him (mayb berserk will b needed but im not sure tactics matter). then allow him to stagger away from the square while maintaing your position. then move on the sqaure and descend downwards....please note 2 things....he might hit you while staggering...so you need to have enuf hp to withstand this. also a single potion may not work so you need multiple potions...1 way to get cursed potions of water / cursed scroll of uncursing is to have these items in you stack AND NOTHING ELSE and sacc 1 gold piece on a non-aligned altar...if the god is angry he might curse your items (he might also destroy your worn items, hence the risk. have 1 item in your inventory, else he will doom you )! its tricky but in your case necessary...good luck

e: Eeeeexcellent, frist try directly worked :-D I had an amulet of life saving equipped, so I wasn't afraid of his attacks, but in the end my first cursed potion of invisibility directly did the job.

e: Just found a lawful orcish spear of devestation with a damage die of 5d8+10! Holy cow, is that what an orcish spear should be capable of? :-o

If stairspot is blocked [with hostile EG or player or maybe pet] at moment EG dies there is no more respawns. Well, no more shortcut too.

Well done. Be very careful not to take the shortcut to the surface by accident, at least not before you finish the game.

It's what the "of devastation" suffix is capable of. I'm dreaming of finding an eternium quarterstaff of devastation one day.

Actually I don't use the shortcut at all on my lithium runs. I really try to keep the number of visited locations as small as possible untill the very end.

It's really crazy! Got an eternium spear that I just used for air temple and destructive enemies, but apart from that this orcish spear is absolutely endgame'ish!

In fact your crazy orc spear is safe to use in the air temple. Iron items are not destroyed by the lightning there, only paper and wood and so on.

I like to bless and rustproof valuable iron items like that to make them as resilient as possible.

edit: to be more precise, iron is only safe from the background lightning. Lightning breath attacks, such as used by the elementals there, can destroy iron.
