    Default First win: Ratling Mindcrafter

    Hello!

    This is my first win, although it was quite unexpected. [Do not judge my English please, I'm still learning it. I would be glad if someone will point on my errors if any.]
    I was usually choosing Fighters (just boring) and Paladins (couldn't decide what to train, weapon skills or magic) and got bored a bit. So this character was born by a random roll.

    She had some troubles in the early game, but massive spoiling and excellent ADOM playthrough by Silfir made the win.

    Notable moments

    The early game was one long tough moment. The toughest part was on VD:4 where my brave but no yet quite strong ratling encountered a room full of claw bugs. If I remember correctly, they shrug off my confusion blast and confusion blasts are really really helpful in the beginning of the game. Also, bugs were a bit faster. I had to use healer's service for 4 or 5 times before the last insect fell.

    Big room. I used that cheat with the wand of door creation, it was a forced measure. White worms started breeding and my ratty did not have necessary damage potential to stop them all. And I needed those precious herbs! Looking on the list of killed monsters, 1/10 of them are white worms.

    Teleportitis. Do not remember from where I got this, but it synergises well with Mindcrafter innate teleport control.

    Appearance. You know, rats are ugly in ADOM. They are so ugly that my Sightsiezer got about 4 corruptions by Animated forest. All of them were decreasing appearance even more and I began to silently panic. There are not so many ways to raise appearance in the game and I needed radical measures. She had to drank 4 potions of exchange before I got a satisfying configuration of attributes (high strength and appearance, reasonable willpower and dexterity and very low charisma). I made a raid to Infinite Dungeon for the loot, I guess potions were from there [also ~3 of gain attributes]. I also tried potions of balance but they are not so good. I've got a feeling that they work mostly on alignment when attributes are high enough.

    Ancient dwarf last quest. After taking the quest I went left to make sure the shopkeeper will not be killed by the demon. Ironically, when I returned back to check where is the demon, he already killed the questgiver and half of the town. (The previous time I played, Big Punch was stolen by a female dwarf while I was getting rid of heavy stuff =D).

    Crowning. I was crowned as a champion of Balance, got immunity to fire and Brannalbin's Cloak of Defense. The crowning was quite late [after Dwarven Graveyard and Pyramid], my rat suffered from hunger (many guaranteed artifacts wer generated at that point). The cloak is a good gift, although you usually prefer to not wear it (monsters cannot hit you, so you do not train shields AFAIK; also hunger). Immunity to fire was nice for ToEF. Mindcrafters have good gifts.

    Darkforge. Steel golems caused me more pain then whole ToEF later.

    ToEF. Next time I will try to confuse the wyrm before shooting poisoned ammo of slaying.

    Find weakness. At some point after the wall of flames I found a statue which set my Surival skill to 0 and gave me Find weakness at 100. It was so lucky! I would want to get the second wish for Find weakness/phase dagger and now such a luck! I never check what statues can do in wiki or anywhere else, just kick it and that's all. (Not speaking that sometimes kicking does nothing.) I was shocked how the game wants to be beaten.

    Casino. Robes of resistance here! Goodbye, eternium plate mail!

    Ice queen domain. After reaching Casino I found a white dragon scale mail and the ring of fire in the inventory, and decided to look at the Ice queen domain. I know that CoC after Casino are really hard (last time I was killed by a group of minotaur mages a couple of levels after Casino), so why not to level up somewhere. Ice queen domain wasn't in Silfir's playthrough and I was interested to see it. With my cloak it was like a promenade. The reward was several levels, several potions of cure corruption, staff of the Wanderer (oops!), unbreakable pick axe and phase dagger (here you are!). Maybe there was one more artifact, I did not found it though. The pick axe found some use in temples, the staff is a waste of inventory space. I'm not sure how useful the phase dagger was in this game, I had Mastery in swords already. I guess it was killing molochs faster.

    The greater vault in CoC gave me Vanquisher (it saved me some time on D50) and Sun's Messanger (wow, unbreakable bow).

    Cat lord was tough. I really could be killed by his enraged attacks. Some fireballs saved me here (+ammo of humanoid slaying).

    I did not like Air temple, especially after the mage got out of the temple and started teleporting across the level. Have no idea how much useful stuff I lost here. I believe I did not get Greater Telekynetic Blast at this point, it would be awesome here.

    Mana temple was absolutely horrible, I don't know how I managed to survive here and kill that *** mage. I spend most of potions of extra and ultra healing here. Absolutely craziest place in the game. You cannot even use the mindcraft here! I killed the line of magebane eyes by mental blast before my PP ran away, but it did not help since some of them left alive.

    D:50 was solved by Vanquisher, ammo of slaying, greater telekinetic blast (killer of summoners) and eyes of the mind. Eyes of the mind allowed to kill ghost lords in top/bottom rooms even without actually seeing them. Aging was a problem for me here, I spent all my potions of youth somewhere in the midgame. I guess aging attacks of ghost lords could kill me. I used the wand of destruction to close the gates. Also, I was surprised by undiggable walls on the level. Maybe it is even better that I went through the central room, I could shoot ghost lords more safely from the existing corridors.

    I was so happy to win the game and headed directly to the exit from the Drakalor Chain. I could try to deal with corruptions but I did not want to risk. It is better to have YAVP post than YASD one. Any win is enough for the first time.

    After the win I checked artifacts list. I missed many artifacts: Kinslayer, the Shirt of the Saints, Ironfist (it would be the most valuable for me), Soaker. The silver key is a funny artifact. I first could not remember it, but then realized that at some point I used it to open all doors. (I thought for myself, oh, silver key, again, so strange...) I did not use the rune-covered trident. I already had Vanquisher and tried to employ the trident as a thrown weapon without great success (2 or 3 spaces is too short for a thrown weapon).

    Legendary monsters were easy, I don't even remember how I killed the legendary wraith

    Anyway, it was a great game and I will definitely continue to play ADOM. Maybe even buy it on Steam after the Steam release (although the price is somewhat high I've heard).
