    Default Preparing for Andy...

    I've only finished the game twice and surely wasn't planning an ultra-ending this soon, but certain circumstances arose and I just had to risk it.
    Eva is a Gnome Elementalist, a class I rarely play, but when Salamander appears on my screen (which seems quite rare to me) I often go for this r/c combo.
    So I found elementalists can be quite powerful, every enemy in the early game falls to either frost/fire bolts or burning hands, the one exception I can remember being Keethrax, and he fell to 3 acid zaps.
    So I was about level 15 and realized I was only missing the boar skull and farmer corpse for the witch. I had a ring of doom so it was not long before a Giant Boar dropped a skull for me. Now I only needed either an AoLS or a wish to save the dying sage, which I got from the Jarl GV.
    Now I face a decision for which I ask your advice as I'd like to maximize my chances to beat the Chaos God.

    Eva is now level 36 just past the Casino, crowned neutral. She has the medal and crown of chaos. BugCav and Library still unvisited, quickling tree found but not entered. Speed (appears to be very important) is 135, without penalties, but including 15 from the artifact armor. Attributes are on their 30's and early 40's, without equipment bonuses. Unfortunately I dumbly missed the chance to enter the maze and get a few more PoGAs and I already killed the Black Unicorn, so no more garanteed for the rest of the game. Notable items: 7LB's (plus one extra pair stashed away), Nature's Companion, Thunderstroke, True Aim, the turtle trident, plus Havlor and scorched spear waiting in the casino, and weapons for every situation possible. I decided to train polearms (eternium spear) to get the best possible bonuses from the rooster trident when fighting in the Chaos Plane. I'm guessing the best way to kill Andy is humanoid or demon slaying missiles, and already have 30 something quarrels combined and planning on using crossbow (level 9 now). Also training with thrown RCT but don't know yet if I'll use it.

    Now, I have a second (first was to save Khelly) RoDS and plan to used it, as I said earlier, to maximize chances in the last fight, because everything else can be done with the character as it is right now. I'm thinking mostly on speed and stats. Corruption won't be a problem I believe, since I have 7 scrolls and can get 9 more guaranteed. There's also 2 potion plus the random drops.

    Useful wishes I can think of:
    Alchemy - to improve stats, mostly
    Archery - a few more damage from missiles
    Athletics - +8 speed, and more stat increases at level up (I've got loads of potions of potential)
    Food Preservation - I doubt this will be helpful with stat increases (all above 25), need enlightment on the matter
    Speed - pure and simple on the spot
    GoGS - already have girdle of +4 str, so Alchemy will probably give more strength alone
    Scrolls of Education
    Find Weakness
    Dodge - probably not worth it

    What's the best wish(es) in your opinion? Is it better to wait for later and wish for temporary Speed? Or get permanent speed now? How much speed can I expect to get from the Tree? Should I forget about speed and maximize stats? I've also got plenty of potions of boost stats.

    Also grateful for any other advice to prepare for (and fight) Andy.

    Generally a wish for speed on chaos plane is quite useful, combined with gulping all potions of boost speed.
    Since Andy ignores PV and paralyzes, you need paralyzation resistance, preferably intrinsic since items that grant it usually occupy an otherwise important item slot that could be used for something better.
    Wishing for alchemy at this moment is quite pointless as you won't be able to level it up effectively past ~50. Same for archery, athletics and dodge.
    If you survived till this point, you obviously had no problems with food so food preservation is another wasted wish.
    Find weakness is nice but probably not worth it if you already have a slaying weapon.
    In your case the red trident will cover all slaying powers you may need.
    Gogs translates to some extra damage but again, with a slaying weapon that's not a whole lot.
    I'd probably do this: since you already need to be extremely corrupted to enter the chaos plane, you might as well gather all the potions you have ever found or sold (buy them back) and turn them all (the useless ones, you should probably spare boost speed, extra/ultra healing and water) into potions of raw chaos using moon sickle.
    After that, go to D:1 and dip them in each other. With some luck, ~100 potions should net you 4-5 potions of gain attributes.
    Andy drains like crazy so you're better off having excess stats so his drains won't suddenly leave you unable to scratch him, especially when your attributes will already be lowered due to corruptions.
    Another useful wish would be for scrolls of chaos resistance as the chaos plane is a really nasty place in this department, especially for non-lawful aspiring avatars.

    On a side note, getting food preservation with the wish is only viable if you decide to hunt down some quicklings in the wilderness and eat their corpses.
    10 corpses should average ~30 speed and food pres would be really helpful with the drop rate, especially if you also use missiles of hunting and/or missile weapons of hunting.

    In general I do not wish for skills unless it is raining in wishing wands. Food preservation would be cute for quickling tree, but it is very unlikely that you move speed significantly above 140 [before gear].

    So I'd wish for speed [~+200 burst] and try shoot the hell of AD. 30 quarrels might be not enough [accounting for misses]. But you might just teleport away, wait for AD to follow and teleport back to get missiles [might want have wand of digging ready due to wall shift]. Honestly there is like zero reason to stand next to chaos god and is not like he is inclined to close to mellee range.

    IF you somehow have not done already, get the Havlor crown +12/+12 in headgear slot makes life so much better.

    I ended up with Food Preservation from a scroll of education, just about the only move I made since. There's a few other stuff stashed in Ogre Cave. I remember RoDS, 2 PoGA, boost potions, 4 scrolls of protection, all slaying missiles (including 39 demon/humanoid quarrels, 35 demon/humanoid arrows), couple of wonder wands, more holy water and blessed identify, and 7 SoCR.
    The potions of raw chaos could be a good idea but unfortunately I fed the sickle to the demented rattling. Also have 4 blessed potions of exchange, maybe I'll try to dip a few ring stacks to see if I get an extra wish to "waste" on a skill if nothing else is better. One wish will be saved for Speed, since it seems like the best option.
    One question about archery. Are you sure I couldn't "push" a wished skill to at least 80? I have no other use for 14 more level ups, unless tactics that I think it will level up itself. With 80 archery there's +5 damage (plain, maybe it translates more with bonuses?) and 10% reduction on energy points from lightning shot. Might be worth a try since I'll probably be depending on missiles for damaging AD. (Edit: forget it, just remembered that for taking 2 talents i need to be level 45...)

    You might have plenty of skill points to use but you won't be able to improve archery past its maximum current potential.
    Even if your dice is like 2d4, you might be at 45 archery with max potential at 50, it's perfectly possible.
    I suppose if you really spent your time using missiles, you might train the potential higher but then past around ~60 you will face increases by 1 due to the inevitable +1 dice.
    Doable but I'm not sure if really beneficial. If anything you might wish for speed twice.

    EDIT: 7lb aren't made of rusting material so no need to waterproof them. If anything you could improve them with all those scrolls of protection (bless them first of course) and get a nice +5 or more extra PV plus improve their survivability versus destructive elements.
    Other than that you pretty much have everything you need against Andy, though the general rule is this: if you have more than you need, you just won't use the extra stuff. If you have less... you're fucked. Or need to be really creative.

    Seems to me that Andy should be not too hard to defeat for Eva. Your stats are perfectly nice; just keep some healing pots and shoot or bash him. With 500 speed, meleeing with the TotRR sounds not too dangerous.
